If you care about celebrities’ political affiliations, this news might be of interest to you. Kanye West is taking a step back from politics.
In a series of tweets, Kanye disassociated himself politically. Stating he is tired of being used as leverage for things he doesn’t believe in. This has all derived from his apparent role in a ‘Blexit’ campaign. West allegedly designed the logo – human figures spelling out the word ‘Blexit’.
‘Blexit’ is a campaign focused on the vote of black people across America, encouraging people to vote Republican. However, despite these reports, Kanye has tweeted how his name was politically assigned to the project after the designer didn’t want their name attached to the work. Therefore, disheartening the rapper, stating he will focus more on being creative.
Kanye West is famous for endorsing the current President, Donald Trump. Consequently, he is often seen donning the infamous ‘Make America Great Again’ slogan. It is always a dangerous game when celebrities reveal where they align politically. It can cause backlash. Although we do see the benefit of those with a voice speaking out on social issues.
It will be good for Kanye to step back from the limelight of politics and focus on his actual career. Moreover, it can’t feel good to be used in a way you aren’t comfortable with. Although Kanye has never had a problem with using people’s images in his music (Taylor Swift, for example).
