Elon Musk has just unveiled the first image of the “badass” space suit that could take humans to the next level of inter-planetary exploration. It will most likely be worn by astronauts involved in the SpaceX Dragon cargo capsule mission, which will take crew members to the International Space Station – and potentially beyond.
The astronauts do look pretty heroic in the new suits, so it makes total sense that Jose Fernandez – the man responsible for designing costumes for superhero films such as Batman, Iron Man, and The Avengers – is assisting Musk in creating the suit design.
Fernandez said the following when interviewed by Bleep in 2016:
“It’s pretty badass.”
“[Musk] kept saying, when people put this space suit on, he wants them to look better than when they did without it, like a tux,” he explains:
“You look heroic in it, its a pretty iconic thing to be a part of.”
Elon Musk is a billionaire with some absolutely out-of-this-world (literally) ideas and goals. Amongst his goals are to get private paying citizens trips to the Moon by next year, 2018, and to travel humans to and from Mars by 2060.
