WATCH: Matthew McConaughey Surprises Retirement Home’s Virtual Bingo Night

Alright, alright, alright.

With cinemas across the world closed and films temporarily shutting down production, celebrities, like the rest of us, are stuck inside their houses. The only difference is that they have mansions.

Some waste their new leisure time, like Gal Gadot, and make an awful ‘Imagine’ cover complete with 21 different key changes, believing that simply a glimpse of a celebrity singing a cliched John Lennon song would be enough to bring a glimmer of hope into our peasant lives. It’s safe to say that the song compilation was a complete failure, however, other celebrities, such as Matthew McConaughey are actually doing things to make people happy. He brought a smile to the faces of many people when he surprised the elderly residents of a retirement home during their weekly virtual bingo night.

The retirement home in question, The Enclave at Round Rock, is a senior living facility located close to Austin, Texas, where McConaughey lives and co-teaches a Script and Screen course at the University of Texas at Austin. The Enclave at Round Rock were delighted by his welcome gatecrashing of their virtual bingo night, posting the clip on Facebook with the caption:

Thank you to Matthew, his wife Camila, and his mom Kay for hosting our residents for a few rounds of virtual bingo!” the facility posted on Facebook on Sunday. “Our residents had a great time playing, and they loved talking with Matthew about his family heritage and his favorite drink.

Bingo is normally thought of as a dull game, but the virtual bingo night surprised by Matthew McConaughey and his family became quite lively. Watch the clip below:

As the elderly are particularly vulnerable to COVID-19, retirement homes are taking extra measures to protect their residents, which involve further isolation and barring family members from visiting their loved ones. However, technology (and a surprise by Matthew McConaughey and his family) seems to be helping to soften that isolation and bridge the distance created by a global pandemic.
