In the days of people being rude for a few laughs, a man in Sydney has sparked controversy. A now-viral TikTok video shows a peaceful vegan protest, before panning to an onlooker eating chicken nonchalantly out of a KFC box.
Clearly, this was no accident. While some people on the internet find his actions hilarious, others less so. Some have called it a protest within a protest, while others have called him out for being extremely disrespectful. And honestly, they have a point- while not vegan myself, it still seems blatantly rude.
Besides the main point of whether or not his actions were disrespectful or funny, one has to wonder how he could stomach it. Anyone’s stomach could be turned by the content the protesters were showing on their screens. I doubt most people could stand to eat any food at all; certainly not meat.

The protest was hosted by Animal Rights Activism Sydney, and was what they call the “Cube of Truth”. They have quite a few protests lined up, and describe the Cube of Truth as “a peaceful static demonstration aimed at revealing the realities of Australian animal agriculture and facilitating engagement with the public through vegan outreach”. Any volunteers are welcome, and only need to show up in a black shirt. The group’s experienced volunteers provide everything else.
Instead of focusing on some jerk who tried to be funny (something the world has no shortage of), let’s try to focus on the group this TikTok brought awareness to. After all, 20% Of Young People Think Everyone Will Be Vegans By 2030.
