In an interview with Jordan Klepper, a Trump supporter explains how he ‘had to recover’ after ‘stop the steal’ and compares the movement to a cult
Standing outside a vigil in support of those who were imprisoned in relation to the capital insurrections on January 6th, 2021, Jordan Klepper talks with a Trump supporter who claims he had “never been to a protest event before” but became “completely consumed” after the 2020 presidential election.
The protester goes on to explain how devoted he was to the movement even going as far as sleeping in his car “for three months” in order to attend various ‘stop the steal’ protests.
“I travelled from rally to rally, from stop the steal event to stop the steal event for three months sleeping in my car, going to see the evidence,” the unnamed protester claims.
He goes on to explain how he “had to recover” after becoming so consumed by the movement.
“I had PTSD. It took me a long time to find myself again. I feel like I just got out of a cult, and my best friend said ‘you probably did”.
When questioned by Klepper on whether or not the protester still believes in the ‘stop the steal’ campaign, the protester replies that people normally ask “do you think the election was stolen?”
Klepper then repeats this question to the protester who replies “I don’t think the election was stolen, I know the election was stolen” before reflecting that “this is how someone who was in a cult often responds”.
At this Klepper questions if the protester is “still in the cult? You’re at a rally for January 6th prisoners today.”
Dodging the question, the protester responds “I’m at a much happier place”, as sombre music begins to play.
