WATCH: Basketball Player’s Eye Pops Out in Gruesome Injury!

Not for the fainthearted!

A New Zealand Breakers basketball player has an unfortunate accident during a game, which resulted in some horrible footage.

Akil Mitchel’s eyeball popped out of it’s socket during a match between New Zealand Breakers and Cairns Taipans. A challenge by Nnanna Egwu went unexpectedly wrong when his finger caught Mitchel’s eye and managed to force it out of his head.

WARNING- Although only for a split second, this video is not for the squeamish!

A 15 minute break allowed the player to receive treatment and lead Mitchel away, covering his head with a towel to protect the audience from the gross sight.

Mitchel’s manager has recently said:

“Akil is sitting up and resting, and has vision to his injured eye. While there is some damage, the early reports are very positive that the injury is not as serious as first feared.”

It seems like this guy had a lucky escape!
