A new face of skateboarding arouse this most recent X Games when Mitchie Brusco preformed a near perfect 1260 beating Tony Hawks 1999 record. In 1999 Hawk wowed the crowed with a perfect 900, last week Mitchie Brusco blew the stands and the judges away by out of no where pulling a full 1260 with a perfect landing.
The judges are stunned of the event that has just taken place while you can see the relief on Mitchie Brusco face. This marked another crucial shift in what skateboarding used to be and what it has become today as a professional sport. As the sport has become mainstream, the athletes are performing at a much higher level which isn’t surprising.
What started off as a hobby and way of life for young people has now become a full pledged competitive sport pushing athletes from all around the world to their limits. With this new accomplishment by Brusco we see the standard set even higher for those to follow.
The star days of Tony Hawk and his influence on the sport of skating have finally been surpassed. Skateboarding has succumbed to competitions much bigger than the sport ever intended to be. People like Brusco lead the torch into the future of what will come only ever looking back to stick the landing.
