With social distancing in place, seats in NFL stadiums have remained mostly empty. The Denver Broncos found a creative way to fill them up by using cardboard cutouts of South Park characters.

Our lives have significantly changed since the start of the Coronavirus outbreaks and while there has been disagreement on these measures, everyone agrees that no one is happy with the situation. Restrictions in the fight against the virus have included social distancing rules, which has meant that professional sports matches have mostly gone without the usual spectators.

The Denver Broncos are no exception and have only had their stadium filled with up to 5700 socially distanced fans, while the capacity is 76,125.

Cardboard Cutouts

Since the Coronavirus outbreak, people have come up with creative ideas in response to the situation. This ranges from the creation of 3D printed ventilators that require no electricity to a 12-year old’s boy invention of a device that starts beeping if you come within the range of 1,5 metre to someone else. Now the Denver Broncos brought joy into their stadium by filling up the empty seats with massive South Park character cutouts.

It’s rather fitting that the characters visited the Denver Broncos, Colorado’s state team, as South Park is set in Colorado. The creator’s Matt Stone and Trey Parker also grew up here and happen to be massive fans of the Denver Broncos.

Pandemic Special

South Park has been working on a pandemic special, which will be the first-ever hour-long episode of the show.

“Randy Marsh comes to terms with his role in the Covid-19 outbreak as the on-going pandemic presents continued challenges to the citizens of South Park. The kids happily head back to school but nothing resembles the normal that they once knew; not their teachers, not their homeroom, not even Eric Cartman.”

Official Synopsis for the South Park special

One thing is certain, we all welcome joyful distractions in these difficult times. The episode will air on 30 September on Comedy Central and will appear on HBO Max 24 hours later. Read more about the special here.
