According to reports, the United Arab Emirates (UAE) sentenced an Israeli woman to death after allegedly finding her guilty of having drugs in her possession.
Times of Israeli has named the woman, Fidaa Kiwan, who was arrested March 2021 just after arriving in the country.
During the search of the 43-year-old’s apartment, authorities found more than a half a kilo of cocaine. Kiwan claims that the drugs were not hers to which her legal team is planning to appeal.
Although the Israeli Foreign Ministry claimed to be “handing” the case, they have yet to say anything further on the matter.
Kiwan is said to be a Haifa resident who owns of photography studio. She is also said to have arrive in Dubai after being ‘invited to work by a Palestinian acquaintance,’ according to Times of Israel.
Footage found from last April showed a group on women on a penthouse balcony. There are such laws to Dubai, prohibiting lewd behavior which is punishable by custodial sentence or fine.
The police had shared this statement:
‘A criminal case has been registered against the arrested, and they have been referred to Public Prosecution for further legal action.
‘Dubai Police warns against such unacceptable behaviours, which do not reflect the values and ethics of Emirati society.’
After being arrested, model Yulia Ulyanochkina, had this to say to Russia’s Mash media:
‘The period of uncertainty was the most difficult, when you sit and do not know whether you will be given six months or released.
‘I was put on a dirty mattress. I got hysterical. The girls came one by one.
‘Only then did we realise that we were deprived of our freedom. It was scary.
‘The cells were just awful.
‘There were a lot of prisoners, the air was humid, there was fungus in the toilets and a lot of hair.’
‘There was always a bright light in the cells, and no windows.
‘We didn’t know what time it was. There were no simple means of hygiene.’
