Three 19th century remote islands located between Portsmouth and Isle of Wight, have been put on the market for a total of $11 Million.

These forts were commissioned by the former Prime Minister Lord Palmerston and built in the 1850s to protect Portsmouth against potential French attacks.

Currently, these islands have interested investors and hoteliers and are perfect for self-isolation purposes amid the COVID-19 pandemic. They are now on sale by estate agent Strutt and Parker.

Spitbank and No Man’s, are two of the private islands that have been previously refurbished and run as luxury hotels for tourists and visitors. Now, they are put on sale and are priced at respectively £4 million and £4.2 million.

The third island, Horse Sand, has not been renovated, and as the cheapest of the three, is priced at $980,000.

The initial owner of the private islands, Mark Clare, 65, purchased the forts between 2010 and 2012 while they had been unoccupied for decades. He then renovated Spitbank and No Man’s a few years ago to be run as luxury hotels.

Now, with the permission of Portsmouth and the Isle of Wight council, the forts are converted into private homes, and after spending $10 million on renovations for Spitbank and No Man’s, they are up for sale for lucky investors or homeowners.

Regarding Horse Sand, previous owner, Clare, has stated that it is a perfect ‘blank canvas’ and with a ‘few millions’ worths of renovations, the owner can ‘do it up’.

No Man’s fort, the most expensive of the three, has been transformed into a top-tier luxury hotel with a total of 23 suites, 7 bedrooms, staff quarters, private dining, and a traditional English pub located inside.

The fort is also equipped with a Rooftop terrace, hot tubs, sauna, re pit and rooftop bar, and BBQ decks.

It’s reachable by a helicopter or a 35 minutes transfer from Gunwharf Quays by boat.
