In Santorini, Tourists Who Weigh More Than 220 Pounds Are Now Banned From Riding Donkeys.

In Santorini, one of the major tourist attractions is to ride a donkey, these poor donkeys have to carry around tourists all day in horrifically hot weather conditions, irrespective of how much said tourists weighed and the physical stress it may have placed upon them.

In conclusion, the Ministry of Rural Development and Food posted a new set of guidelines stating that donkeys would not be allowed to carry anyone who weighed more than 100kg/15 stone.

Tourists wishing to take a ride on Santorini’s famed donkeys must now weigh less than 220 pounds (100 kilograms), or one-fifth of the donkey’s body weight, according to USA Today.

USA Today says:

Tourists take donkey rides along the steep and narrow terrain of the popular island of Santorini, which has prompted activists to raise concern over the animal’s well-being.

In a way, I can not help but agree and I am glad that something is being done about the working conditions of these animals

Furthermore, the new regulations also ban animals from working and calls for adequate food and fresh drinking water.

For me, it has finally come to light how horrifically donkeys are treated around the world, here is a horrifying video of a Donkey being thrown into a tiger exhibit in a Chinese zoo. (Warning: Graphic content)
