Millennials are leaving the big cities in favour of much smaller ones. More young professionals are leaving cities such as New York and Los Angeles in favour of cities in Texas and Colorado.
This trend was already in place before the pandemic began according to a report from the Census Bureau’s 2019 1 year American Community Survey. The report shows that cities such as Phoenix, Denver and Seattle have seen the cities that saw the biggest increase in millennials in 2019. So what are the top five destinations for millennials now?
Denver
10,974 millennials moved to Denver, in Colorado from a different state in 2019. Denver’s economy is booming, with a unemployment rate below 4%, the city is a good prospect for millennials just starting out in their careers.
Seattle
Millennials make up 34% of Seattle’s population, so it is clearly a popular city with the younger generation. The city’s proximity to nature makes it a great destination for someone who craves time away from the buzz of the city.
Phoenix
23% of Phoenix’s population is made up of millennials who moved from the city from outside of Arizona and the city is one of America’s best cities for growth.
Austin
Situated in Texas, Austin has a population of over 950,000 people, 31% of which is made up of millennials who arrived from out of state. The city is well-known for its great parks and river, making it a great place to call home for those who love outdoor exercise.
Colorado Springs
Millennials make up 24% of this city’s population and it is clear why when you consider the great quality of life this city has to offer. Residents are able to partake in a range of outdoor activities, making this city a great option for those who like to keep busy and active.
