In 1998, McDonald’s did an exclusive promotion of Szechuan style sauce for the release of Mulan. Fast forward 19 years. In a Season 3 episode of Rick and Morty, Rick expresses his love for it. In October 2017, McDonald’s brought the sauce back for a limited run. This February it’s back again.
The first batches of the 20 million packs of sauce are scheduled to drop on February 26th. Although customers have requested that the sauce be brought back indefinitely, McDonald’s would find this difficult due to the ingredients of the sauce.
Will the Szechuan-pandemonium continue this time?
However, McDonald’s has released a three-part podcast talking about the mistakes they made with the October promotion. Moreover, customers drove across the US to get their hands on the limited-edition sauce to be met with long queues. This time, McDonald’s hopes they have executed the re-introduction of the sauce right to allow all customers to try it.
As of yet, there is no announcement on if the sauce will hit UK McDonald’s. Nonetheless, if all goes well, we may be able to expect some Szechuan dip this side of the world.
