Creative cakes have been a trend in the baking industry for some time now, with professional chefs and home cooks always trying to design the most impressive work of dessert. From rainbow cakes, to six layered cakes, to glazed cakes with a mirror effect, it seems we have seen it all. Or have we?
The latest trending on the cake radar is the work of a true sculptor; a larger-than-life-sized Hercules beetle shaped cake. Except it isn’t only shaped in the form of the beetle, the exterior of the cake is a near to perfect visual replica of the enormous beetle.
The outer layer has us questioning whether the work is edible…
… but the interior sponge cake has us a little more reassured. The creative dessert master who made this work of art, Katherine Dey, posted a video of the making of the cake on her Instagram, assuring her viewers that the dessert is made out of lemon and strawberry cake with vanilla meringue buttercream. Not a trace of beetle in it!
