Cadbury UK has recently announced its newest collaboration with Goose Island Beer Company to reveal the new Creme Egg flavoured drink: the Golden Goo-Beer-Lee Stout (an iconic play on words to mark their 50th anniversary and golden jubilee). This drink arrives in time for the imminent arrival of Easter, in hopes of satisfying the population of the UK that consume 200 million Cadbury’s Creme Eggs every year, despite its Easter associations.

To commemorate the 50 year anniversary of the Cadbury’s Creme egg, the new Creme Stout is a blend of malted barley, milk, sugar, oats and wheat to create the same taste as the nation’s favourite chocolate egg. To mirror the chocolate-y sensation, the stout is brewed with cacao nibs and vanilla to mirror the creamy, indulgent flavour of the creme egg – a delight indeed.

The stout is retailing online at 2 x 440ml cans for £10 , however, the collaboration is only releasing 3,000 cans  of the new creation, globally; heightening the competition between Goose Island and Creme Egg fanatics to ensure a purchase of the limited edition stout.

After a turbulent year of restaurant and cafe closures, Raphael Capitani, brand manager for Cadbury Creme Egg, suggested they wanted to take ‘EATertainment to a whole new level’ and hopes that Cadbury’s ‘first beer’ will honour Cadbury Creme Egg lovers and encourage people to ‘raise a glass to five delicious decades of Cadbury Creme Egg!’.

The Master Brewer at Goose Island, Andrew Walton, also confirmed that they wanted to keep the beer ‘super drinkable’ as the ‘flavours of the stout [already] complement the iconic Cadbury Creme Egg’ but they intended to further elevate the ‘chocolate and creaminess of the beer’ and make it ‘unique and delicious’, and of course, iconic. A drink that will be remarkably rich and decadent.

The responses on Twitter have, of course, been amazing with many, many users ‘looking forward’ to the drink, whilst remaining ‘curious’ and ‘conflicted’ at the unique collaboration. However, @AlyBayne speaks for the masses after the craziness of the past year: ‘This is actually a bit of ridiculousness on beer that I can get on board with’ – The optimism that we all need.

Whether you’re celebrating the big 5-0 birthday of your favourite chocolate egg, or varying your alcoholic treats in lockdown, you can purchase the Golden Goo-Beer-Lee Creme stouts now from the Goose Island website whilst limited stocks last!
