Are you stuck in a rut with what to order at your favorite restaurant? Instead of opting for the Chicken Katsu Curry at Wagamama (I see you) you could instead try something new. Restaurants are constantly innovating new and unusual dishes to keep their menus fresh and exciting.
Most of these dishes are limited edition on summer menus, so act fast if anything catches your eye.
Here is a picture of the Spaghetti Pizza I ordered which inspired this post. Trying new food and flavor combinations is a great way to step outside your comfort zone (although admittedly, I knew this was going to be delicious… who says you can’t have the best of both worlds?)
1. Zizzi’s Six Tier Lasaaaaagne
Say goodbye to your usual lasagne, and hello to six tiers of deliciousness. This dish is the ultimate upgrade of a traditional lasagne – perfect for those who want to order something a bit different, whilst knowing this is guaranteed to please. Zizzi also offers a vegan Rainbow Lasagne as a meat-free alternative.
2. Las Iguana’s Mexican Poppadoms and Cheese and Mango Empanadas
Las Iguanas always impresses with its varied Latin American menu. Their Mexican Poppadoms are a twist on the traditional Indian side dish, served Latin American style with salsa and pea guacamole (a sustainable alternative to avocado guacamole.) Plus, if you’re a fan of sweet and savory flavor combinations, their Cheese and Mango Empanadas are a tantalizing treat to the tastebuds.
3. Bella Italia’s Hoisin Duck Pasta
You may have come across a Hoisin Duck pizza (Pizza Express is currently serving a limited edition one) but have you ever heard of Hoisin Duck pasta? I certainly haven’t! This dish is called the Marco Polo pasta, and it has proved so popular it’s now here to stay. If fresh strozzapreti pasta with pulled duck, spring onion, mushrooms and a sweet plum sauce sounds good to you, then why not give it a try?
4. Crêpeaffaire’s Pizza Crêpe
Ditch the lemon and sugar or strawberries and Nutella for a savory pancake alternative – a Margherita Pizza Crêpe. Is it French, is it Italian? Who knows, and who cares. This savory crêpe comes with delicious tomato sauce and oozing cheddar cheese inside. With so many sweet and savory options, this casual dining spot is perfect for friends who have opposite tastes. It is also worth noting that Crêpeaffaire offers the option to swap ordinary cheese for a vegan alternative.
5. Wagamama’s Spicy Miso Mackerel
This kokoro bowl is part of Wagamama’s aim to encourage nourishing options that will leave you feeling revitalized during summer. The mackerel fillets are served on top of a bed of veggies and brown rice, garnished with red chilli, ginger, and coriander. Mackerel is a super healthy source of protein, so with that being said, give it a try – I dare you.
It’s so easy to order the same thing time and time again for guaranteed satisfaction, especially when your hard-earned money is going towards it. However, venturing off the beaten track every now and then can be super rewarding, and who knows – maybe you’ll find your new favorite go-to dish. (Hopefully not one of the limited edition ones, though…)
