Kyle Gibson, a competitive eater from Sunderland, recently embarked on a new challenge for charity: to eat the entire Five Guys Menu in 60 minutes.
The 22 year old was set on raising money for his local food bank – the Newcastle West End Food Bank – and managed to chomp through eight burgers, four hot dogs, two portions of fries, two veggie sandwiches, a grilled cheese sandwich, a BLT, two milkshakes and some refill drinks.
In total, that sums up to 13,000 calories.
He did so in just under 61 minutes and raised £400, as well as donating £100 from his own pocket. He commented to Chronicle Live, “It was a bit of a struggle, but I managed to get through it.”
A commendable victory, I’d say.
Holding the top place in the British Eating League, Kyle used his expertise to raise awareness for people in harsher economic situations who perhaps cannot afford the same quantity of food as his challenges require.
I love doing crazy stuff like this but I do realise that there are people out there who really can’t afford food, who are in bad situations and generally need help and rely on places like food banks in order to feed their families.

Perhaps slightly tinged with irony, his challenge still serves to bring awareness and raise money to a good cause and should inspire others to offer the help they can within their local community.
When Kyle is not engaged in binging thousands of calories of food into his mouth in record breaking time, he maintains a regularly healthy lifestyle and diet and balances his competitive eating with going to the gym and cycling.
