UK mini-airport unveils its vision of the future with the introduction of cargo drones and flying drones in a demonstration next month.
Stop the presses, the future is finally here and it’s bringing flying taxis with it. No longer do you have to watch Back to the Future 2 in awe, fantasizing about the possibility of flying cars, now this dream can be a reality. And where might you find this window into our futuristic utopia, none other than, (drum roll please), England’s very own – Coventry!
This will come with the introduction of a ‘flying taxi’ showcase at a mini-airport site in Coventry along with cargo drones, coming next month. Billed as ‘the starting gun for a new age of transport’, the Air-One site gives layfolk the opportunity to experience what a drunken cab ride home from Pryzm could be like from the air.
Sadly these life-sized model air taxis will not be soaring that high above the clouds as the Urban-Air Port’s air taxis have yet to receive government approval. Nevertheless, it is expected to be an impressive feat and a great opportunity to see what kind of technology we might have in store.
The taxi demonstration shall be paired with the cargo drone demonstration over the next few weeks, flying over people’s heads the billed as being the size of two double beds; a sort of modern take on Bedknobs and Broomsticks.
Though it’s in its early stages, Air-One hopes the technology on show will one day expand nationwide, a regular piece of public transport of people and goods.
This will not be the only demonstration of the capabilities of drone technology as West Midlands Police’s drone team will also be showcasing equipment at the event.
these new vehicles are being introduced with the aim of minimizing the environmental impact of transport systems. They came the ‘advanced air mobility can cut congestion and air pollution and support a zero-carbon future’. Speaking with the BBC Insp Mark Colwell said “Drones offer a cost-effective and environmentally friendly way to enhance our force operations and ensure we can provide the best crime prevention service to the public.”
