Cocaine is Washing Up on Fiji’s Beaches, Turning Paradise Into a Drug Haven

And it isn’t fish!

Figi is one of those places that, at some point, you’re just going to have to go to. It looks like a beautiful paradise, and the weather doesn’t look too bad either. However, the country may find this year there will be an influx of tourism as a certain something keeps washing up on their shores!

It has been reported that pure cocaine is washing up on the shores of Fiji, and no one can really explain why. Here is what Police Commissioner Brigadier General Sitiveni Qiliho has had to say:

“It was dumped out there at sea, destined for some other place.

We are working with our Australian counterparts with the capabilities that they have, for us to further investigate that area of the ocean where we think things might have been dumped.

With regards to the cocaine, we continuously look around for information in that regard, we are visiting the islands and talking to the turaga ni koro and leaders that any information they have, to contact us immediately.

We urge members of the public not to try to open it because it is dangerous to do so. This is cocaine in its purest form, as we’ve mentioned before, so their safety is also our concern.

As of this morning, we received information about more discoveries in the Yasawa group and also in the Bua area in Vanua Levu. So our officers will be sent over to get the packages, which will be sent for analysis to confirm whether they are the same. But the packaging is the same.

So the guidance is pretty clear for the locals, do not open the packages under any circumstances. However, apparently, some of the locals have already taken some of the packages home so who knows what is going on behind the scenes. Also, I wonder what way the police will be “analysing” the purity of the drug?
