“Practically Unliveable” Sydney Horror House To Fetch Above $1.1 Million

How much would you spend to live in squalor?

What kind of property would you expect to get for $1.1 million? You might expect luxurious decorations or all of the mod cons. How about a “practically unliveable” wreck though? You’re in luck!

A property in the normally desirable suburb of Leichhardt, Sydney has been described as “disturbingly ugly, depressingly dingy and completely without charm” by the very people selling it.

It’s pretty unassuming from the outside.

“This is the worst house I’ve ever seen, and originally we wanted to use the word Fugly to sell it, but we obviously changed that,” said David Eastway, an estate agent from Hudson McHugh, in an interview with news.com.au.

The property apparently lay vacant for years after the previous owner passed away. He was described as “a bit of a hoarder” and consequently left the home in an unliveable state.

Usual practice would allow potential buyers to view the interior of the house but, according to Eastway, there’s no point with this place, “You really don’t want to stand in the property long enough to take photos. The inside isn’t interesting, as realistically any buyer would just knock down the whole home,” – a real winner then!

It even comes with an extensive warning for anyone brave enough to want to view the property.

Seriously though, why would anyone even consider buying this place? As usual, it all comes down to money and the value of the land that this charming house sits on.

It’s about a third larger than the average property in Leichhardt,  “You could easily build a $2 million house on the property, and there are not many places for sale in the area of this size.”

The average house in the area goes for about $1.3 million but Eastway anticipates that this particular property will fetch beyond its initial $1.1 million asking price. It has been a very popular listing with over one hundred online enquiries so far.

So, yeah, it’s a real fixer-upper and it looks like it will only attract more attention before its December 12th auction date. Are you up to the challenge and have a spare couple of million lying around? – me neither, darn it!

This place is expensive but it’s nowhere near the most expensive in the world! Check out this absurdly indulgent mansion in Bel Air!
