Few rap gems are as respected as the debut album from the Wu-Tang Clan: Enter the Wu-Tang (36 Chambers). A milestone of the 90’s “East Coast Renaissance”, Wu-Tang’s first album still remains influential in the rap world, and will continue to do so when their debut EP gets a revamp.

Their first masterpiece, which debuted in November 1993, created the prototype for a new hip-hop sound. Fans of the genre enjoyed the raw, explicit, and free-associating resonance of Wu-Tang Clan’s music. To celebrate the 25th anniversary of the album, the Staten Island rap group is set to remake the entire disc using new MCs of today.

Loud Records (the label that propelled Wu-Tang Clan, Mobb Deep, and Big Punisher) is behind the restoration. The co-founder of Loud Records, Steve Rifkind, explained the news in an XXL Magazine interview:

“With Wu-Tang, we’re gonna do a few things. We’re gonna remake the album with nine MCs from today. Each new MC will play a character in the original 36 Chambers.”

Rifkind also made it known that there will be a “major tour” in celebration of 25 years of the Wu-Tang.

At the time of the first album’s release, there were nine original MCs: RZA, GRZA, Method Man, Ol’ Dirty Bastard, Raekwon, Inspectah Deck, Ghostface Killah, Masta Kill, and U-God. For now, it is unknown who is going to be replacing the original members, but we hope at least a few of them return for the revamp. To jog your memory, here’s just a few of the great bangers that will now have an updated sound: “Can It Be All So Simple”, “Wu-Tang Clan Ain’t Nuthing ta Fuck Wit”, and “C.R.E.A.M”. It’s going to be electric.
