2022 has been a great year for science fiction and fantasy on TV. Starting from big HBO series like House of the Dragon, Westworld, and His Dark Materials to The Lord of the Rings: The Rings of Power, Stranger Things season 4, and new Marvel and Star Wars offerings, there have been so many interesting series.

The end of Game of Thrones started a fresh era of TV where every studio wished for its own big-budget fantasy show. Those ambitions became a reality in 2022.

But one side of this genre is that it’s not easy or cheap to create these imaginary worlds. So even though we may have come across some new favourite characters this year, we’ll have to wait a while to see them again.

House of the Dragon

House of the Dragon was one of the several shows to be excited about this year. It is a Game of Thrones prequel series that is set nearly 200 years before the original show.

We knew HBO was creating a few Game of Thrones spinoffs, but we didn’t know if they would stand up to our expectations. Fortunately, House of the Dragon was pretty good.

The season concluded with Rhaenyra Targaryen, the usurped Queen of the Seven Kingdoms, looking furiously into the camera as she heard the news of her son’s death. House of the Dragon season 2 will start filming in early 2023, and Programming President Casey Bloys of HBO confirmed that the second season will not air until 2024.
