The film is an absurdist comedy-drama about their daily lives and revolves around An catastrophic railway accident that forces a family into quarantine. It is based on the eighth novel by Don DeLillo, which was released in 1985 and won National Book Award for Fiction in the US.
The film explores and focuses on the themes of death and isolation. It shows the circumstances of a family stuck in a situation that takes us to a world where survival is hard. The family undergoes various changes due to their experience. For instance, Babette prefers distance, while Jack struggles to understand the situation due to his growing anxieties.
Baumbach is well-known for his funny and cerebral comedies, and his previous movie, Marriage Story, was a great hit with an opening weekend take of about $160,000. Unfortunately, fans didn’t appreciate his most recent work, which has an average rating of 6.5/10.
Despite the shortage of cinematography, the filmmaker was able to keep audiences’ attention with the help of the movie’s unexpectedly timely plot.
Fans did enjoy the acting skills of Adam Driver as Professor Jack Gladney, a university professor living with his fourth wife and four children. He did an excellent job performing the part, and his performance was praised.
