Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story is the latest project by Ryan Murphy, and it’s now available on Netflix. In this ten-episode limited series, Evan Peters plays the infamous serial killer Jeffrey Dahmer. Dahmer is best known as the man who murdered many men, often mutilating or even cannibalizing their bodies after death.
The Netflix show hopes to take a different approach to the subject matter, focusing more on the victims and people in Dahmer’s life rather than depicting the killer’s perspective. The show’s subject matter is undoubtedly messed up and horrifying, but it’s sadly based on a true story.
Most of Dahmer’s victims were black men, gay men, or black gay men. So there is much to analyze on how the police mishandled the case. Hopefully, Monster: The Jeffrey Dahmer Story will explore and show us how racism and homophobia allowed Dahmer to escape after committing such crimes for so long.
Jeffrey Dahmer was arrested on July 22nd, 1991. He killed at least 17 men and was found guilty but insane for 15 of the 17 murders. According to History, in February 1992, a jury found him sane for 15 of his murders. So, he was sentenced to 15 consecutive life sentences.
Jeffrey Dahmer was found dead in prison. Two years after he was sentenced, Dahmer was killed by another inmate named Christopher Scarver.
Dahmer was 34 then, and the date was November 28th, 1994.
