Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is about Puss in Boots, who realizes that he has completed eight of his nine lives. With only one life left, Puss fixes his sights on the Last Wish, which he intends to find and restore his nine lives. The movie was co-directed by Joel Crawford and Januel Mercado. The cast involves Antonio Banderas, Salma Hayek, Harvey Guillen, Florence Pugh, and Olivia Colman.

The movie starts with Puss in Boots battling a villain that is terrorizing their city. After winning the battle Puss returns for an encore but gets smashed by a bell. That is when Puss realizes that he is dead, but he is sure he still has plenty of lives left, but a montage of the previous eight times he died proves otherwise.

The banter between Puss in Boots and Kitty Softpaws is hilarious. Banderas and Hayek aren’t shy about playing opposite each other, and that chemistry is something that can be felt off the screen.

The writing is quick-witted and sharp. The rest of the cast includes Olivia Colman, Florence Pugh, and the scene stealer Harvey Guillen as Perro. Harvey was literally the one to hold this film together and make everything else work as well as it did.

Puss in Boots: The Last Wish is easily one of the best-animated movies of 2022. It’s funny, charming, and has some of the best comedic writing in an animated movie.
