“The Fresh Princess” name has been trademarked, is it finally time for a Fresh Prince reboot?
According to the latest report on TMZ, the owners of the “The Fresh Prince” trademark have also sought the name “The Fresh Princess” for a TV show and other platforms. Rumors have been spreading of new toys with the Fresh Prince brand and thus an animated series. Will Smith has speculated to endorse such a project.
A female-led spin-off of the show could really find success within modern media. Original fans of the show will be hit with nostalgia, especially if Will Smith plays an adult character in the show. However, with films such as Black Panther recently making huge strides in representation and being the 5th highest grossing film of all time. Now is the time to continue this trend and have a strong person of colour leading our TV screens.

Capital FM has already named a few amazing actresses that could fill the top spot. These include; Black Panther’s Letitia Wright and The Greatest Showman’s Zendaya. Although, how cool would it be for Will Smith’s daughter to take the lead as the “Fresh Princess”?
Willow was recently spotted with her brother Jaden planting trees in California. The Fresh Princess reboot could take on an interesting perspective if Willow portrayed the daughter of Will Smith’s all-grown-up character. Will’s father infamously abandons him on the show, encouraging Will Smith to ad-lib a heartfelt response. A reboot could provide some catharsis for viewers as we see Will attempt fatherhood.
There has been no official announcement, but we think now is the right time for this reboot. The producers could take it in many directions, so we will wait and see what happens.
