How I Met Your Father will air as a 10 episode show on Hulu with Hilary Duff as it’s lead
Duff will play Sophie, who tells her children the story of how she met their father.
Like the original show, the new show will explore Sophie’s relationship with her close-knit confidants, who are navigating an existential crisis and figuring out how to make the most of life’s limitless options.
The comedy comes from the HIMYM creators, Craig Thomas and Carter Bays who have also reunited with the show’s original director Pam Fryman.
This Is Us and Love, Victor duo Isaac Aptaker and Elizabeth Berger are set as the showrunners for the show. The show also features star Hilary Duff as a producer.
The cast also boats Chris Lowell, previously known from shows like Veronica Mars and the successful Grey’s Anatomy spin-off Private Practice.

Lowell, sat to Duff’s right in this cast photo, will play Jesse, an aspiring musician who works as an Uber driver to make ends meet. He’s described as edgy and cynical about love and lives with his best friend, Tom.
On Duff’s left is Francia Raisa, known for Grownish and Dear White People, who plays Valentina, Sophie’s roommate. The character is an aspiring stylist and Sophie’s close friend. She’s impulsive and adventurous, and Sophie relies on Valentina’s ability to cheer her up when she gets down.
Behind Duff is Tom Ainsley who will play Charlie, an aspiring British model who fell in love with Valentina at London Fashion Week and who followed her to New York. The son of conservative aristocrats, Charlie’s a great guy, but he’s been living in a rich person’s bubble his whole life.
On Ainsley’s right is Tien Tran, from Space Force, who will play Ellen, Jesse’s adopted sister. She’s just moved to New York from a small farming town after separating from her wife.
Next to Tran is Suraj Sharma who rounds out the main cast of six as Sid, Jesse’s roommate and best friend. He’s a new bar owner and plays the optimist to Jesse’s cynic.
Lastly in this cast photo is Brandon Micheal Hall who features in the far left, who will feature as a guest star as Ian. He will play Sophie’s Tinder match who she finally meets in real life. (Could he be the ‘father’ of the show’s namesake?)
There’s Been A Mixed Reaction from Fans
Fan’s of the original HIMYM can’t seem to agree on their feelings towards this spin-off.
Some fans seemed to be against the idea of the spin-off following the controversial ending of the original show, which saw ‘the mother’ dying and many of the main relationships of the show end.
As this fan states: ‘Cast is legendary but if Bays and Thomas are still involved, I’m out.’
Cast is legendary but if Bays and Thomas are still involved, I'm out. No, killing the mother and getting Ted and Robin together was not clever. It was stupid.

It’s so far unsure how this spin-off relates to the original story or if it will at all. But many fans are hopeful that they’ll be hints from the original and maybe even cameos from the original cast.
Wonder if this will ever work since some fans of HIMYM like myself will want this to take place in the same universe and keep certain things in it, but at the same time not just copy the same formula. Big shoes to fill, hoping for some cameos for sure by the original cast!

The comedy was picked up straight to series in April after two previous attempts that were passed over in previous years. A premiere date for HIMYF has not yet been determined.
