Since its launch in March 2019, the Formula 1 documentary series Drive To Survive has shown the inside and outside of the garages and paddocks of 10 F1 teams.
Each new season of the show highlights the events of the previous racing year. And the release always happens near the start of the F1 calendar. As the 2023 Formula 1 season is all set to happen in Bahrain on March 5, fans eagerly await the fifth Formula 1: Drive season to survive.
Netflix recently launched the trailer for the new season, and the official premiere date is February 24. Two-time defending champion Max Verstappen of Red Bull is featuring in season 5 after refusing in the past for season 4.
Max Verstappen told the New York Times last spring, “I’m quite a down-to-earth guy, and I just want it to be facts; don’t hype it up. I understand, of course, it needs to be like that for Netflix. It’s just not my thing.”
The absence of Max Verstappen in season 4 causes a drop in views. This season, the drama will be more intense than in the previous year, as there is no shortage of storylines from the 2022 Formula 1 season for Drive to Survive. Two-time title winner Fernando Alonso is also in the lead role.
Ferarri also shows a resurgence in 2022, with some strong performances from Charles Leclerc and Carlos Sainz. At the same time, Mercedes fans can see a return to title contention for Hamilton in 2023. The Formula 1: Drive To Survive season 5 will depict the story of his first winless season in 16 years of F1.
The show’s last season also mentioned master moves by Hamilton’s teammate George Russell and McLaren’s Lando Norris and the dismissal of Norris’ teammate, the ebullient and camera-friendly Australian Daniel Ricciardo.
