As part of Louis Vuitton’s Spring 2024 collection, Tyler, the Creator has released a men’s capsule collection for Pharrell Williams, Louis Vuitton’s men’s creative director. This is Pharrell Williams first capsule for Louis Vuitton as the new men’s creative director.

The Inspiration

With lots of pastels and floral-based patterns, it’s not hard to see that part of the inspiration behind this collection was Tyler, the Creator’s own personal style. The artist has always worn lots of bright pastels, mixed with more earthy-toned colors in structured pants or shorts.

On his Instagram, Tyler, the Creator described his collection for the luxury brand as his style and Louis Vuitton’s brought together. It’s one that is both whimsical and playful, yet still practical for the everyday.

The Collection Itself

As the new Creative Director for Louis Vuitton Men’s, this is Pharrell William’s first ever collaboration for the high-end brand.

In classic Tyler, the Creator fashion, dandy pops of pastels were mixed with neutral tones to create sleek and preppy pieces. This collection looks precisely like items that Tyler himself would wear, but with Louis Vuitton simultaneously written all over it.

This collection includes everything from V-neck sleeveless vests to Bermuda shorts and chino pants to sleek Louis Vuitton-branded down jackets. Many of the pieces are similar to collegiate apparel styles, such as bomber jackets, and there are even LV brooches and jewels.

Tyler even designed golf attire and an actual travel chessboard for this collection. There are golf bags, golf head covers, and towels in a green Damier pattern.

Additionally, Tyler, the Creator, dubbed his own redrawing of the LV monogram the “Craggy Monogram.” The Craggy Monogram is essentially the classic Louis Vuitton monogram, except a little more uneven, complete with daises and Airedale Terriers. This monogram reveals the playful yet sophisticated style of Tyler, and of course, it includes symbols of the world he’s created.

On March 21st, Louis Vuitton, Tyler, the Creator, and fellow guests celebrated the birth of this new and exciting collaboration with an event at Louis Vuitton’s Rodeo Drive boutique in Los Angeles, California. Tyler, the Creator is actually a Los Angeles native, as well, so everything about the event was inspired by his creative vision.

Notable guests included Jaden Smith and Donald Glover.

In an interview, Tyler, the Creator mentioned that he grew up looking to Pharrell as a father or brother-like figure. The iconic pair grew a close friendship as collaborators on music and now clothing. They have confided in each other and motivated each other to new endeavors.

Considering their close friendship, it’s not much of a surprise that Williams invited Tyler, the Creator into the Louis Vuitton office for a capsule collaboration. Pharrell Williams became Louis Vuitton Men’s Creative Director in February of 2023. Before this, Williams had done collaborations with LV in 2004 and 2008.

Williams has already made notable strides with Louis Vuitton Men’s, including an exciting Western-themed collection for Fall 2024.

A Background in Fashion

This is not Tyler, the Creator’s first clothing collection, however. The artist has worked on his own designs for years.

Odd Future, a musical group that Tyler, the Creator used to be a part of, released its own clothing and merchandise line in 2011. Tyler also started his streetwear brand Golf Wang in 2011, which has done various collaborations with Vans.

Tyler the Creator and Converse’s shoe collection, called GOLF le FLEUR, was created in 2017.

The easily recognizable, classic Tyler, the Creator style leaves part of his legacy on Louis Vuitton. Tyler continues to make strides as an artist not only through music but also through design and clothing/footwear.

Stay tuned for more from the newest Creative Director of LV, as well.
