Imagine traveling to the most scenic places on Earth. The Eiffel Tower, Taj Mahal, the Statue of Liberty, you name it. You take in the beautiful scenery and pull out your paint and canvas in hand, with people around you thinking that you’re going to create the next masterpiece. Instead, you start to paint the pattern of the shirt that you’re wearing.

This is the case with artist Hank Schmidt in der Beek along with his sidekick
Fabian Schubert to make this ridiculous concept a reality. Since 2009, the pair has traveled to scenic places with their canvas and camera in hand to poke fun at themselves and other artists. The project is titled Und im Sommer tu ich malen which translates to In Summer, I Paint, in which people from around the world like a different take on things

“Basically, I paint whatever my wardrobe offers me,” Hank said to Edible Taube, who has published a book with his photographs. Hank’s concept may seem like a silly idea but this silly idea wasn’t a bad one. The outcome of this silly idea is the work of a unique mind, which other artists should learn from.
