OLD is ready to arrive in theatres on July 23. Film-maker M. Night Shyamalan is renowned as the master of placing excellent twist-endings in his films. His latest film OLD follows a family on a secluded beach where they discover their aging process has been dramatically increased. A chilling premise, Shyamalan’s latest film is worthy of attracting cinemagoers. You can check out the trailer here:

OLD was filmed at a beach in the Dominican Republic. Shyamalan’s cast and crew successfully managed to complete their production without anyone involved in the project contracting COVID-19.

In an interview with Movie Roar, M. Night Shyamalan talked about the filming process being equally an idyllic and hellacious experience. Unfortunately, the cast and crew despite being in a beautiful environment were denied the freedom of going out and exploring the setting.

Shyamalan explains in the interview,

“We were isolated because we were doing it in the height of the pandemic…we couldn’t just stroll to town. It was back to the hotel [for the cast and crew.”

For Shyamalan however, these constrictions were beneficial in creating the conflicting themes of horror and beauty he aimed to deliver in his latest film.

The concept of his film was inspired by a present from Shyamalan’s daughter which was gifted to him on Father’s Day-the graphic novel named Sandcastle by Pierre Oscar Levy and Frederik Peeters. In an interview with Fox Washington, Shyamalan expresses his desire to tap into the fears that everyone has of aging. He explains:

“For the parents, it is alarming to see kids age and the possibility of the world not being safe. [In OLD] the children do not have that chance to learn how to be safe.”

OLD stars Alex Wolff, Gael Garcia Bernal, Thomasin McKensie, and Aaron Pierre the stellar cast indeed build the promise of M.Night Shyamalan’s latest film being worthy of a watch. After his success in working on the two seasons of the psychological horror series Servant on Apple TV Plus, Shyamalan’s new blockbuster OLD can be widely anticipated as time itself has become a major disrupter throughout the pandemic.

M.Night Shyamalan and his cast and crew can therefore take strength in their own abilities in adapting and remaining disciplined throughout the film-making process despite being placed under such restrictive guidelines.
