42-Year-Old Man Lands Jail Time for Lockdown Parties

Blowout parties burn out police patience.

The Coronavirus lockdown is simple: don’t have people over! Unfortunately for some, the rules were too strict to follow. 42-year-old Shawn Marshall Myers is being sent to jail for one year for breaking lockdown rules. Marshall threw two parties at his home in Hughesville, Maryland, with over 50 party guests showing up to break quarantine.

Governor Lary Hogan had issued an emergency order earlier prohibiting gatherings of over 10 people. When cops shut down the first party, Myers was argumentative but eventually cooperated and disbanded the party.

Less than a week later, officers responded to a report of a bonfire, as well as another large party at Myers’ residence. He disregarded orders to disband and encouraged guests to stay and ignore the laws.

Police ultimately apprehended him and tried him on two counts of Failure to Comply with an Emergency Order.

The state attorney said this:

“Myers was argumentative at the first party, but eventually agreed to disband it.

At the second one, officers told Myers to disband the party, but again he was argumentative, claiming he and his guests had the right to congregate.

Beyond being argumentative, Myers directed his guests to stay in defiance of Governor Hogan’s orders and the officers’ lawful orders to disband the party.”

Myers was convicted of the charges. He will serve 1 year of active incarceration at the Charles County Detention Center. Upon release, he will be on unsupervised probation for a period of three years.
