The Iconic White House’s Rose Garden Undergoes Iconic Change

First Lady makes drastic changes to the White House's Rose Garden.

On Saturday 22nd August, First Lady Melania Trump unveiled the drastic changes made to the White House’s rose garden.

The changes took just a mere three weeks to complete and were paid by private donations. As of this moment, the White House have not disclosed the cost of the renovations.

The First Lady’s changes were to symbolise hope for the future; with also a  a nod to inclusivity by redesigning the garden’s accessibility for disabled guests.

The renovations include new limestone walkways, removal of crabapple trees and white roses in the symmetrical shrubs. The minimalistic design is a far cry from the colourful and less regimented garden that existed before.

The modernised, minimalistic garden is to set to be the backdrop of the First Lady’s upcoming speech to the Republican National Convention.

However, it seems that not everyone welcomed the garden’s new look. On Twitter there was an outrageous backlash to the unveiling, with some branding themselves “heartbroken” and a “downgrade”.

Now I’m no Alan Titchmarsh or but I’m sure anyone green fingered would agree that both are acceptable candidates for The RHS Chelsea Flower Show. But you can make your mind up what one you prefer.
