Pinterest Celebs to Follow for “Effortless Cool Girl” Summer Style

Four Pinterest icons to use as style inspiration this summer for effortless style: a fashion style that looks thoughtful but really involves none.

The fashion industry tends to be defined by competition- wearing something that stands out amongst many who are trying to do the same. Finding that “something” (whether it’s a specific piece or an entire outfit) can be an exhausting process. So, how can you stand out? How can you make your outfit look “cool” without showing just how much effort you actually put into it? Or, better yet, how can you look cool without having to go through extensive effort?

The style of “effortless fashion.”

With effortless fashion, you’re able to stand out by looking like you’re doing the bare minimum alongside those doing the maximum. Plus, looking cool whilst also looking like you just happened to throw together random pieces is something many fashion-forward individuals envy.

Your effortless style game can become stronger through taking inspiration from women who have both mastery in effortless fashion and a very small following/fanbase.

Below are four niche Pinterest celebrities to be inspired by this summer for the perfect effortless style.

1. Camille Roth

Camille Roth’s style typically consists of a base that is both solid and tame in color and silhouette; then, the base tends to be layered with an accented piece–something with bright colors, unique detailing, or a unique silhouette. Many of her social media followers (over 100k on her main Instagram account @camillleroth and over 20k on her photo dump account @imawinnerfourever) are a result of people who have reposted her outfit-related images on Pinterest. Her style is unique, and she makes it look effortless.

Bright-colored lace

The lightweight and breathability of lace garments make it perfect for summer temperatures. Further, the detailing of the lace makes it easy to elevate a casual outfit, and wearing lace with bright coloring can both emphasize the garment and step-up your outfit.

During summer beach trips, using a colorful lace mini skirt (such as Roth’s) as a bikini cover-up is an easy way to use an interesting garment choice to make your beach outfit interesting and stand out.

Skirts in a similar silhouette can be found on Amazon: Pin Up Doll Store’s “Women’s Lace Skirt” priced at $17.95.

A lace mini in a similar color as Roth’s can be found on bohemian retailer Ramona LaRue’s website: “Donna Mini Skirt” in color “Yellow.” The skirt is priced at $185, though the durability and quality is significantly higher than Amazon’s.

Style tip: to make the skirt sit lower while still keeping the “mini” aspect, size up for the ability to roll the waist down.

Incorporating bright lace more subtly (i.e. with a bra) can still take the look a step beyond a simple outfit, especially with a lace color that contrasts the outfit’s overall color

With Roth’s outfit, the bright yellow color of the lace contrasts against the dark black knit of her cardigan.

Lingerie brand Skarlett Blue sells a similar bra–their “Entice Lace Balconette Bra” in color “Canary”–for $66.00 (on sale now for $24.99!).

The bra also comes in other lighter color options: “Romance Pink Pearl,” “Saltwater,” and “Sheer Lilac.” A darker and bolder red, “Lipstick Red,” is sold as well.

Body suit

Wearing a body suit opposed to a standard tank top (whether cropped or full-length) is a subtle yet noticeable change. It gives the body’s silhouette a slight step-up from wearing the typical top, yet the bodysuit is still plain and low-effort to style.

Roth is wearing Los Angeles Apparel’s “Garment Dye Halter Bodysuit” in color “Heather Grey,” though that specific color is no longer sold. The suit is priced at $38.00.

However, in-stock colors include “Black,” “Chocolate,” “Cerulean Blue,” “Classic Red,” “Strawberry Pink,” “Creme,” and “White.”

However, Los Angeles Apparel does sell a “Heather Grey” bodysuit in a similar style with their “Garment Dye Tank Thong Body Suit,” and it’s priced slightly cheaper at $36.00.

Fun yet simple details on the bodysuit, like the stripes on Roth’s below, elevates the piece (and outfit) while still maintaining the simplicity of wearing a bodysuit.

Style tip: pair this bodysuit style with an a-line (flowy–perfect for movement in summer heat) or pleated mini skirt (ties in the “chic” of the stripes); consider a black or white-colored skirt to maintain the color palette or something more colorful for a pop of color.

Roth’s suit is a navy and white striped body suit from American Apparel, which unfortunately is no longer sold as American Apparel is now rebranded to Los Angeles Apparel (where Roth’s previous body suit was from!).

The suit can be found across various resale websites–Poshmark ($28.00; currently on sale for $18.00), Etsy ($66.00),and Depop– ($11.20).

2. Ruby Temple

Ruby Temple’s style is similar to Roth’s in terms of simple outfit bases with accented pieces- just with more of a minimalist appearance than Roth’s. Also like Roth, many of her Instagram followers (over 12k on her main account @rubytemplle and over 3k on her photo dump account @rubiana_21) have come from reposts of her pictures on Pinterest.

Bright nail polish

Wearing bright nail polish is an easy way to both bring color into an outfit and take the overall outfit a step further by adding a small yet additional element to the look. Plus, nail polish can last from days to weeks, so it’s an easy outfit add-on that you don’t have to think about incorporating every time you get dressed!

Below, Temple is wearing a bright pastel mint green polish color, which stands out harshly against the dark red and black colors in her outfit.

Similar to Temple’s nail polish shade is the Vegan “Salon Quality Nail Polish” from essie in shade “seas the day (mint green)” sold by CVS for $9.99, though essie polishes can be found at a variety of drug stores, makeup/beauty stores (such as Ulta), and department stores (like Target and Walmart).

Style tip: do a thin layer of white polish before applying “seas the day” to make it even more bright.

"seas the day" shade is modeled on the nails of three different skin tones, done by having one hand from each skin tone laid against a white background with all 5 respective fingers painted.

Statement accessories

If you feel your outfit is “too plain,” adding one statement accessory is a quick and easy fix. Temple does this with her bright nails, but she also does this with physical accessory pieces.

Temple’s outfit is accessorized with gold angel wing flip flops, which stand out against her full navy hoodie and sweatpants outfit. Though the hoodie and sweats might be a bit warm for the summer (sarcasm–definitely too warm!), wearing a navy (or any solid, singular, non-gold color) tank with a skirt, for example, will still give the same effect.

The flip flops are the “Wings Flipflop in Gold” from NiiHAi selling for $117.00.

Hair pins can be an interesting statement accessory. Using unique pins, like pins with wording, aren’t common to see, so your outfit will be sure to stand out. Plus, using just a hair pin as the statement accessory, again, maintains a minimalist, effortless look.

Temple has styled Roth below, and the hair pin is custom-made by Temple.

The “Custom Crystal Word Hair Pin” from BellavoniCosmetics sold on Etsy is a beautiful, blinged-out alternative. The buyer customizes what is written on the pin, and depending on the length of the word, the price can be as low as $2.50.

Also on Etsy is the “Custom Name Hair Clip: Glitter Acrylic Barrette” by yellowbess, sold for $12.95. Instead of tiny rhinestones, these pins are spelled with colored-acrylic and are also customizable at the buyer’s request.

3. Mazzy Joya

Loud colors, patterns, and accessories are the primary definitions of Mazzy Joya’s style. Despite how busy they may look, her style looks so effortless, which caused many of her pictures to be reposted onto Pinterest for others to use as style inspiration. Her style has contributed to the 216k followers under her main Instagram account @mazzyjoya and the 44k followers under her photo dump Instagram @petal6spliff.

Fun stockings/tights

Stockings and tights with colors, patterns, and structures beyond the usual solid white, black, or skin-toned appearance is something Joya frequently incorporates into her outfits. Whether an outfit is “plain” on its own, or already contains substantial color or pattern, accessorizing with unique stockings or tights is an easy add-on. Plus, the light-weight of these pieces means they can be incorporated during summer!

In Joya’s outfit below, she has already added unique elements through contrast between pieces (white dress over black undershirt); plus, her accessorization choices (layering style, hair, jewelry, red bag) also make the outfit unique.

However, the ripped, striped tights makes the outfit look more visually complex than it actually is.

Amazon sells “Women’s Nylon Striped Tights” from Leg Avenue in color “Black/White” for $8.95.

Style tip: to rip the tights, use scissors or a fork to make a hole wherever you want the rip; then, use your fingers to stretch the hole to the desired length/width/height.

Tights are being modeled waist-down, against a white background. The tights contain alternating black and white horizontal stripes all throughout the clothing, and the tights are paired with a black mini skirt or dress and low-rise classic Chuck Taylor Converse.

Joya (third from the left) is wearing stockings rather than full-length tights. Her stockings are mix-matched–the left has a teal accessory on the trim and the body contains vertical stripes, while the right has vertical white stripes that alternate between heavier and lighter opacities.

The incorporation of stockings is a quick additional accessory, and the clashing pairs adds extra texture and pattern that require minimal effort to incorporate.

Similar to Joya’s left stocking is Pacsun’s “Amy Fishnet Thigh High Stockings” from Leg Avenue in color “White”, sold for $18.00.

Pacsun’s stockings have a lace trim and a fishnet material on the body. The rips can be done in the same method as the striped tights previously shown.

Style tip: make rips right below the trim and use your hands to guide the rips vertically down… this will make the stockings look like they have vertical stripes!

3wishes sells stockings similar to Joya’s right leg with their “White Sheer Striped Thigh Highs with Baby Pink Bows” for $9.95, the only difference being a pink accessory rather than a teal one!

And of course, rips can be done DIY-style again.

Mix-match

Mix-matching doesn’t necessarily always have to be considered “sloppy.” Like Joya did with the stockings, cross-dressing patterns–as well as colors–is an easy way to make an outfit look more high-maintenance (and that more effort went into it) than it really is.

Joya wears a pink and purple wig, bright neon bone hair clip, bright blue leopard mini dress, pastel pink socks, and black shoes. Here, the colors don’t really alright, yet the outfit somehow all comes together because of how mix-matched it is!

Amazon”s “Anime Cosplay Wig” from ZGNGLIZ Store is an identical match. It’s currently on sale for $19.99, down $2.00 from $21.99.

Style tip: trim the bangs and side pieces to better fit your face (if needed), like Joya did.

For the bone hair clip, Etsy lists the “Resin Bone Hair Clips” from KawaiiKave in color “Green” for $5.04.

Third from the left is the “Green” color, which Joya wears. And at check out, buyers can leave a note if they want glitter on top–also like Joya wears!

All of KawaiiKave's bone clip colors (from left to right: white, black, green, pink, purple, blue) are aligned horizontally against and a pink background that has white polka dots.

Not identical but very similar to Joya’s dress is the “Caisyn Contrast Minidress” from Princess Polly, sold by Nordstrom Rack. It’s on sale for $36.97, originally $75.00.

The dress Joya is pictured wearing is from unityartclub (no longer listed or sold), but Nordstrom Rack’s dress still contains a similar pattern, color, and structure.

The dress is being modeled on a woman in two side-by-side pictures. The left is from the shoulders down to show the slim fit and mini length, and the right is zoomed in onto the dress to show the leopard pattern and blue color of the dress plus the back of the leopard.

Etsy sells “cotton slouch sock” from SignatureSocksbyCC in “Pink,” which are almost identical in color, thickness, length, and knit as the original socks. They’re sold for $15.99/pair.

The socks are being modeled in a zoomed-in picture of a woman's mid-calf to feet while she is standing. The image shows the thickness and slouchiness of the socks as well as its knit texture.

In this mix-matched outfit, Joya is wearing a bikini top with money bills printed across it, and it’s paired with neon, hot pink ruffle shorts for the bottoms. The mix-match of the colors, patterns, and textures–again–somehow bring the outfit together.

Though not initially intended this way in the picture, this outfit could be a perfect beach outfit by using the shorts as a bottom cover-up.

Etsy sells something similar with the “Money Print Bikini” set from UnicoSwimwear for $135.00. The set contains the bikini top and bottoms, and the money is printed on the front and back across both pieces.

The bikini is laid out, both top and bottom pieces, on the ground. The shot is close enough to the bikini that the pattern is clear, while the shot is far enough away that the entirety of the set is shown, too.

Rave Wonderland sells nearly-identical shorts: “Solid Ruffle Women’s Bottoms” in color “Pink.” Initially $27.95, they’re currently on sale for $22.36.

The bottoms also come in “Black,” “White,” and “Red” color variants–all of which can go with the top if a less-colorful look is desired.

4. Sephira Street

While clothing is obviously the main component of “effortless style,” hair accessorization is just as important to complete the look, and Sephira Street (@kingsephi)–another Pinterest icon–understands this well. Her outfits are simple (more similar to Roth and Temple rather than Joya), but her hair tends to complete the look.

Hair pinned to the side

Whether you have bangs, face-framing pieces, or your hair is the same length all-around, pinning the front pieces to the side is an easy, quick style; it gives your hair something while needing little-to-no effort to do.

Personally, this style is my go-to when the summer humidity messes with my hair!

Without considering her hair, Street’s outfit is a very put-together yet super casual, non-accessorized streetwear look. With her hair, the bobby pin and how it pins her hair gives the look an extra accessory while still maintaining the casualty (because of how simple the bobby pin is).

In the second picture of the slideshow, Street’s outfit is more formal and has a “night-out” vibe. While the pin choice is still simple, it’s less simple than a bobby pin; it’s also bigger, which makes it stand out more and therefore further elevates the outfit.

Also pinning the hair to the side with this pin combined with her outfit gives her overall appearance a quick “chic” element.

Target sells a similar clip titled the “No-Slip Grip Large Oval Snap Clips” from scünci. It’s sold for $3.69 for a four-pack: two brown (top clip) and two black (bottom clip) clips.

A model is looking to the left, and the camera sees half her head (both face and hair). Her hair is styled with one of each color of the clips to show the colors and what the colors and clips could look like on someone.

Messy, minimally-styled hair

One way to make your outfit look effortless is by not making every aspect of it look super put-together. Street frequently mixes elevated, curated outfits with messy or minimally-styled hair, where the balance gives her look the perfect effortless appearance .

Street is photographed on a night out wearing an outfit that’s put together yet casual. She simultaneously rocks loose, messy pigtail braids. The balance of clean and messy makes her overall appearance look very, “I just happened to throw this together,” while still being an outfit that’s cohesive and memorable.

Street, again, is wearing an outfit that’s visually put together: black dress, black stockings to accessorize, and a clog/heel mixture as the shoes. Her hair looks almost untouched, yet the slight mess over the neatness of her outfit creates that messy-sleek balance.

Summary

In the end, effortless style isn’t about what you wear but rather how you style what you wear.

Whether it’s a clothing item, an accessory, or even your hair, effortless style is about finding one standout item/piece and making that the look’s central focus.
