The time has finally come, the first Monday of May, which holds the Met Gala every year. The Metropolitan Museum of Art holds the gala in celebration of the Costume Institute. What has everyone talking? This is the dress code: fashion is art. This dress represents the way clothing connects to the body, whether that is the pregnant body, the naked body, or the aging body.
As the biggest night of fashion, the Met Gala always continues to make waves. This night was no different, with Beyoncé being one of the co-chairs alongside Nicole Kidman, Venus Williams, and, of course, Anna Wintour. Also, with the dress code being a bit vague, those tuning in were left on the edge of their seats.
Attendees came to deliver this year. I watched live from my couch, taking notes and forming opinions. So, I have gathered some of my favorite looks that I have deemed best dressed. My main criterion was who best adhered to the theme. So, without further ado, in no particular order:
7 of the best dressed at the Met Gala: “Fashion is art.”
Met Gala Looks: Emma Chamberlain

The night started off incredibly strong with entrepreneur, YouTube icon, and long-time Met Gala attendee, Emma Chamberlain. Chamberlain worked with her stylist, Jared Ellener, to come up with the idea of doing a hand-painted dress. This work of art was created by Mugler under the direction of their creative director, Miguel Castro Freitas. Because this was one of the first looks at the carpet, it was hard to follow up.
Sabine Getty

Sabine Getty, who is a jewelry maker and socialite, wore Ashi Studio. To me, this screams sculpture and art vibes. The bodice looks as if it is actually molded to her. Here, Getty is actually representing the body, making her appear as a work of art.
Sabrina Carpenter

For her fourth time at the Met Gala, global pop star Sabrina Carpenter graced the Met steps wearing a custom Dior by creative director Jonathan Anderson. Carpenter’s dress is entirely made of film, featuring the movie “Sabrina” starring Audrey Hepburn. Many attendees saw the dress code as very literal, but I think film is often forgotten as one of those. I think that is what makes the Carpenters’ dress so special.
Lisa

Next, we have Lisa, who is a highly respected K-pop artist and member of the girl group BLACKPINK. Lisa is wearing a custom Robert Wun dress that resembles one from his fall/winter 2025 collection. Not only was I hoping someone would wear Robert Wun, but I was hoping it would be this dress. When I saw Lisa wearing it on the carpet, I could not pick up my jaw.
Beyoncé

Last but not least, we have co-chair Beyoncé, who came towards the end of the carpet and took breaths away. Ten years since her last Met Gala appearance, Beyoncé decided to switch things up after wearing Givenchy at the Met from 2012 to 2016. As the main part of the body – the skeleton, Beyoncé wore Olivier Rousteing, who recently stepped down from Creative Director of Balmain after 14 years in 2025. The moment on the carpet was extremely bittersweet with the surprise appearance of Beyoncé’s daughter Blue Ivy.
Bad Bunny

Representing the aging body, we have Bad Bunny as quite literally an old man. This look is a part of his collab with Zara. I think the real winners of this look are his makeup and special effects team.
Chase Infiniti

For her first walk up the Met Gala steps, actress Chase Infiniti took a statue approach with a colorful twist. This floor-length dress was custom-made by Thom Browne. Containing over 1.5 million sequins and silk fringes, plus 600 different colors, giving a brush-stroke-like appearance, this dress is a work of art itself.
Heidi Klum

No one should be shocked that the queen of Halloween costumes came dressed as a literal statue. Model Heidi Klum’s dress was made out of foam and latex by friend and collaborator Mike Marino.
The Met Gala verdict is in: fashion can be art
This Met Gala theme was all about whether fashion is truly art or not, and I think the looks on the runway finally settled this debate. Fashion can absolutely be art. From Emma Chamberlain to Sabrina Carpenter, all of the looks gave a different perspective on art.
The Met Gala can be hit or miss some years, but it goes without a doubt that most of the celebrities in attendance truly hit the mark with this one. The dedication really showed this year.
As fast as it came, it left, so now it is time to look forward to next year’s Met. While there is no information about this as of now, there should be an announcement coming late fall or early winter.
