Since October 2023, there has been coverage of the horrific genocide going on in Palestine. Every day, social media was plastered with new angles of innocent bystanders dying from the attack on their land. This coverage has now come to a complete halt.
There has been a horrific loss of journalists documenting their lives. From this, there has been an end to sharing what is going on.
Near the end of the last attempt to get aid from the Freedom Floritta, people stopped sharing.
This doesn’t mean the genocide of Palestine has ended.
The very beginning
Palestine is not a new nation. The knowledge of Palestine dates back thousands of years.
Palestine has been recorded since 9000 BC as an agricultural land in ancient texts.
Palestine was one of the many lands controlled by the Ottoman Empire.
As we have seen, there has always been control of other powers over the land of Palestine. The United Kingdom held power over the land until the 1920s, when the United Nations had deemed that Israel should take the land.
This was the only Nation that was not released from the United Kingdom’s rule to become its own land.
From 1947 to 1977, there were wars over the land where Israel occupied Gaza and the West Bank. Although after many years, Israel released control, and Palestine was able to stand on their own.
Religion in place of morality
Many argue that, at this time, it is their religious right to take this land from the Palestinians through their religious scriptures. They state that the land has belonged to them since the start of time.
It is not new to argue religious scripture to justify a leader’s horrific actions.
When looking back through the Bible, the land of Palestine was mentioned a few times, from the nation as a whole to the Gaza Strip. Palestine is frequently referred to as the “Holy Land”; a term used as a reference for Israel.
The geographical location was not exact in its description. It is estimated that the exact land was from certain geographical locations, such as the Jordan River.
Prior to World War One it was never solidified as the exact location of the land.
By this time, as stated prior, it was still a part of the Ottoman Empire. During the Great War, the Ottoman Empire fought alongside Germany, making the Ottoman Empire an enemy of Britain.
After the War was over, the Ottoman Empire was taken over, and lands were conquered. By the time the land was set free from Britain, it was not given to the people of the land,
Israel attacked and tried to take over the land, but in the end, left it.
Due to the religious beliefs of world leaders, Palestine was taken on the basis of religious beliefs. This kept the Palestinians from creating their own power structure.
It is still argued today that Palestine should be handed back over to Israel to claim the “Holy Land.” A land that has been named for thousands of years has never been given the chance to be its own.
A genocide?
“The legal term ‘genocide’ refers to certain acts committed with the intent to destroy, in whole or in part, a national, ethnic, racial, or religious group.”
Often, when thinking about genocide, we go to the Holocaust, which happened in World War II, where Hitler’s intent was to wipe out the Jewish people.
Do we see this with Palestine?
Nations and their people are naming the horrific acts Israel is committing against Palestine as genocide.
At the beginning, the justification to bomb hospitals and schools was the belief that Hamas had secret bunkers under the buildings, but this has not been true.
To this day, when looking at how the land has been affected, Palestine is flat rubble.
On social media, we have seen the bloodied bodies of children and grandparents.
Media coverage would justify these actions time after time, but through social media, we have been able to see the truth behind these actions.
With that being said, there have been high casualties of journalists pushing the truth. As of 2025, it has been stated that around 200 journalists have been killed since the beginning of the Genocide.
This is a common action seen in tragedy. Nobody can know the truth when there is nobody to push it, but this hasn’t stopped the Palestinian people
Starvation in the land

Many civilians on social media have shared the starvation being seen.
Many of the resources in the land for food have been bombed or destroyed. At times, it was documented that the aid given by Israel was sabotaged, rendering the food inedible.
To stop this there have been many attempts to reach the borders of Gaza to give aid.
A popular source of this has been the Freedom Floitta. Many famous activists have sailed in international waters, live-streaming their day-to-day to document if something happens while they go to give aid.
With multiple failed attempts, they would go home and try again.
It has been seen through live stream that while in international waters, Israel would commandeer the boats and send these activists to be punished for their actions
There have been reports of abuse in these illegal cells, from rape to beatings to forcing the people to do whatever they see fit during these times until the countries they originated from get them back.
This is not something new that has been seen during wartime. Many have reported all sorts of abuse by Israeli soldiers.
There have been multiple reports of rape and beatings. Although nobody has sought to stop these actions.
There have been multiple “cease-fire” orders, which have all lasted for more than a day before bombs struck again.
The United States have most popularly been on the side of Israel during this time. They have sided that this genocide was not wrong and have even joined forces with Israel to start an illegal war in Iran.
What does that mean?
As we have seen on multiple occasions, Israel and its followers have stated that they could take over their land because it was theirs to begin with.
A land that is “Conquered” is not free.
There is a comparison of what settlers did to the United States and the Native Americans and Mexicans that lived on the land, who were pushed out and killed, to exactly what is happening in Palestine.
Since the start of this Genocide, there have been millions of protests against Israel’s occupation. This was not just in the United States but all across the world.
A famous form of activism that was shown around dozens of College and University campuses where camps were set up by students to get their college to pull funds that were being given to Israel.

At this time, many students were arrested or trespassed from the campus, but this didn’t stop their fight. Many teachers were willing to come out to these camps and teach students as well.
During the time of war, students have commonly been at the forefront of the fight. This has been a common matter for generations.
Many Colleges and Universities have gone up in a roar to fight for peace in the world, while the people’s governments go against peace.
Coverage is dying out
When we look at the activism now compared to the start, it seems to be practically gone. Though this isn’t true.
The media has been shadowing the fight, especially in the United States.
Most of the country has been attempting to stop the coverage of these events, even making it illegal to do them.
These attacks on our First Amendment right to lawfully gather and protest in the streets.
Although since the start, there have been multiple other protests to come together due to other actions of our country, people are still fighting.
In June every year, we have our Pride protest for Queer rights. With this, Palestinian supporters have been welcomed as Queer rights are still Palestinian rights.
As ICE protest ramp up a common phrase states “Nobody is illegal on stolen land.” With this in mind, it aids the fight that Palestinians have the right to their land, which was stolen from them.
The illegal war on Iran is just as Illegal as the war on Palestine.
Although we often don’t see the overwhelming support by others documented on social media anymore, unless it is getting searched for, it doesn’t mean it has stopped.
Children are dying of hypothermia due to the storms that have come through the land over the winter, and the media hardly saw it.
It is important during a time of crisis for the whole world not to stop fighting for the rights of others who can’t fight for themselves.
