The Vogue World Hollywood show was a spectacular event that showcased a number of beautiful garments, from costumes to archival designer pieces.
Vogue World is a runway show that takes place every year in different areas of the world since 2022. This show is put on to raise money for different causes. This year, it was for those in the industry who lost their homes to the Palisades fires.
This year, the Vogue World show took place on the Paramount Pictures lot. The theme this year was about the connection between fashion and film. This is why the runway setting is important for this show’s theme.
Best looks
This look is my personal favorite, which is a Schiaparelli archival piece worn by the model Gabriette. The show is split into categories or themes of film, and Gabriette is in the “Renegades” group. The “Renegades” group is the darker and gothic side of film.
The coat that Gabriette is wearing has high shoulders and is stiff. It also has an opening down the middle of the garment, creating a unique pattern with the curves of the opening.
In this video, Gabriette and model Anok Yai recreate a scene from the classic Edward Scissorhands film. The combination of having a model wear an archival Schiaparelli piece, while also acting as if she is in Edward Scissorhands, is what makes this show so special.
This show is not just about fashion, but it is also about the playfulness of cinema and how theatrics can really make clothing come to life.
Marie Antoinette
This look is worn by actress Julia Garner, and here she is dressed as Marie Antoinette. This look is the actual costume from the Sofia Coppola film “Marie Antoinette.”
The dress has multiple layers of silk and tulle, which adds volume to the dress. The dress is also a beautiful cream color mixed with bright pinks. This brings a youthful air to the dress and pairs well with the music in the background.
Julia Garner is a fantastic model, as she uses her acting skills to bring character to the runway. She is also able to showcase the dress properly. The way she runs down the runway, her facial expressions, and the music all tie together perfectly to create this youthful and feminine theme.
This look is worn by model Grace Elizabeth. This look is a part of the same category as Julia Garner’s look. This category is romantic, rebellious, youthful, and feminine.
The dress is the largest dress in width at the show, and it has very minimal detail. The pink fabric is wrapped around her waist and thrown over her shoulder, creating a cape that flows behind the model as she walks the runway.
The dress also has many layers of ruffled white fabric, which adds a lot of bounce to the dress.
Beautiful chaos
This look is worn by model Karolina Spakowski, and she is also from the same group as Grace and Julia. The dress she is wearing has a similar air to it as the previous two did. It is big in volume, baby pink, and a little bit chaotic.
This dress, in particular, has different pieces of fabric added to it, which creates layering, volume, and a puzzle to the eye. This look really makes one stop and actually try to figure out the garment.
I really like this look because it fits the theme; it is what I like to call a “pretty mess.” The dress is messy, but it is pretty.
Fashion and cinema
The Vogue World Hollywood show is a one-of-a-kind show that authentically captured the spirit of Hollywood and fashion intertwined. Fashion is what brings a film and its characters to life. In turn, film gives fashion life and gives the clothing a story.
The use of actors and actresses as models for certain pieces is also an excellent feature of the show because it really brings the theatrical aspect to the show. This makes the show more than just showcasing archival garments.
The finishing touch to the show is the fact that a lot of pieces are the actual costumes that actors wear in certain films. This brings a sort of authenticity to the show that cannot be recreated.
My experience
I worked as a dresser backstage for the Vogue World Hollywood show. It was such a magical night and spectacular event. I have worked a few fashion shows before Vogue World, but none of them were as special as this show.
Working a fashion show is exciting in itself, but working a fashion show that takes place on the Paramount Pictures lot is another level of excitement.
I entered one of the stages and went to my assigned spot as a dresser. From there, I was in a room full of archival designer pieces from Alexander McQueen, Hermes, Prada, Miu Miu, Schiaparelli, and so many more. The room was buzzing with excitement, dressers, tailors, models, and stress. Everyone was in a frenzy, especially when the call time for the show started coming closer.
Dressing
I dressed two models from the renegades category, and they both had stunning looks. The most difficult part about dressing a model is getting the shoes on. This is because you don’t want to hurt the model, yet at the same time, you are on a time crunch. It is important to get the shoes on properly and in a timely manner. If you make one mistake putting on the shoe, it could put the model at risk of falling on the runway.
Luckily, I was successful in my abilities to put heels on models and everythign went smoothly. After I dressed my models, I had a lot of time on my hands, so I went exploring.
I decided to go to another stage, where all the models were headed to line up for the show. This was a surreal moment for me, because it was a huge warehouse full of the models I grew up watching on the runways. Only now I am seeing them in real life, in the most extravagant garments.
Starstruck
The most surreal moment for me is when Anna Wintour walked right next to me. This is a moment I will never forget. She looks exactly the same in person as she does on camera.
I got to watch the show from the sidelines, and it was awesome. Afterwards, I undressed the models, put all the pieces in order, and went home.
This night, by far, is the best night of my life. As someone who is very passionate about fashion, this is my dream come true. My fourteen-year-old self would not believe that I would be able to have this kind of opportunity.
