With the year coming to a close, we’ve had a lot of spectacular movies grace our screens whether it was the big screen or the ones in our homes. It’s been a great year for films. Now we have to look forward to what films are left to end the year.

We’ve had a lot of talents grace our screens this year. With every year there are newer ways filmmakers change our perspective and challenge the very world we live in. Excitedly, cinema is a forever changing art, reintroducing techniques that were once marvelled at, only to be marvelled at once again. And we are inventing new techniques and new technology to entertain the masses. We’ve had a marvellous year for horror and even better year for theatre culture coming back.

The Running Man, November 14

“The Running Man” more like run to your local theatres website and book your tickets. Seats will most likely fill up with the grand promotion that is currently running on TikTok, captivating audiences with Glen Powell’s charm and charisma. This film has been something many have looked forward to seeing as Glen Powell is harnessing that Tom Cruise action agenda and making it his own.

Directed by Edgar Wright, written by Stephen King a man joins a game show in which contestants are allowed to go anywhere in the world just as long as they keep running from the ‘hunters’ that pursue them.

IMDb Rating: 6.8/10

Nuremberg, November 14

Starring Russel Crowe, Michael Shannon, and Rami Malek the story of “Nuremberg” follows a WWII psychiatrist who is evaluating Nazi leaders before the Nuremberg trials and the increasingly disturbing growing bond between him and Hermann Göring.

The film directed by James Vanderbilt who has also written the film alongside Jack El-Hai. Vanderbilt also produced the film “Zodiac,” “The Night Agent,” “Abigail,” and was a writer for the 2016 film “Independence Day: Resurgence.” Jack El- Hai, who is known for, “Severing the Soul,” and “American Experience.”

IMDb Rating: 7.7/10

Now You See Me: Now You Don’t, November 14

One of these most highly anticipated films of the decade the third instalment of the magical franchise. Starring the original four horsemen, Jessie Eisenberg, Woody Harrelson, Dave Franco, and Isla Fisher, with the new Gen-Z cast of the enigmatic Justice Smith, talented Dominic Sessa, and the gifted Ariana Greenblatt. The magical dream team is back and they’re going after something absolutely stunning and sparkling.

The director of the film is Ruben Fleisher known for his films, “Zombieland,” “Gangster Squad,” “Venom,” and “Uncharted.” The writers are Seth Grahame-Smith who’s projects consists of “The Lego Batman Movie,” “It,” and “Beetlejuice Beetlejuice.” Alongside, Michael Lesslie who is known for, “The Hunger Games: The Ballads of Songbirds and Snakes,” “Macbeth,” and “Assassin’s Creed,” and lastly Rhett Reese who is known for, “Deadpool,” “Deadpool & Wolverine,” and “Deadpool 2.”

IMDb Rating: 6.3/10

Wicked: For Good, November 21

The second instalment of one of the arguably best stories ever made is coming back to grace our theatres. I personally can’t wait to, ‘toss, toss’ alongside Glinda and Elphaba in this twisted tale filled with romance, friendship, and self-love. Our spectacularly talented cast will grace our screen again, starring Cynthia Erivo and Ariana Grande.

Once again John M. Chu will be captivating the tale between Glinda and Elphaba. The writers are Winnie Holzman who is known for, “Wicked,” “My So-Called Life,” and “Jerry MaGuire.” Alongside Dana Fox, who is known for, “Wicked,” “Cruella,” and “How To Be Single.” And Gregory Maguire who is known for, “Wicked.”

Zootopia 2, November 28

We are once again going to see our spunky brave rabbit Judy Hopps and her friend the fox Nick Wilde team up to crack a new case. This time though it’s more dangerous and career defining than the last. The cast will be returning with Ginnifer Goodwin as Judy Hopps, and Jason Bateman as Nick Wilde. Alongside the two A listers, will be Ke Huy Quan, Fortune Feimester, Andy Samberg, David Strathairn, and Idris Elba.

The directors for this film are Jared Bush who is also one of the writers, who is known for, “Zootopia,” “Encanto,” and “Moana 2.” As well as Byron Howard, who is known for, “Zootopia,” “Encanto,” and “Tangled.”

Pillion, November 28

This one I am the most excited for because it redefines queer media. Starring Alexander Skarsgård and Harry Melling it follows a directionless man (Melling), who is swept off his feet by an enigmatic and impossibly handsome biker (Skarsgård) who takes him off as his submissive.

The director of this film is Harry Lighton, who is known for, “Wren Boys,” “Pompeii,” and “Leash.” One of the two writers are also Harry Lighton, and alongside Lighton is Adam Mars-Jones.

IMDb Rating: 7.2/10

Avatar: Fire and Ash, December 19

James Cameron graces our screen yet again with another instalment of Avatar. This time we follow our pragmatic family, Jake and Neytiri’s that grapples with the grief after Neteyam’s death, where they now have to encounter a new aggressive Na’vi tribe, the Ash People. Led by the fierce Varang, the conflict of Pandora escalates and they must encounter their own morals and ethics. The cast returns with Zoe Saldaña, Kate Winslet, Edie Falco, Sigourney Weaver, and Sam Worthington.

The director is of course is James Cameron, he is also one of the three writers for this film. The other two writers, Josh Friedman known for, “Kingdom of the Planet of The Apes,” “The Fantastic Four: First Steps,” “War of Worlds,” and “Terminator: Dark Fate.” Alongside Friedman is Rick Jaffa who is also known for “Rise of the Planet of the Apes,” “Avatar: The Way of Water,” “Jurassic World,” and “Dawn of the Planet of the Apes.”

I want to add that these are not the only films that are hitting out theatres at the end of the year, these are just the select few that have become popular and are rising according the popularity list on IMDb. So fill the that Watchlist because 2025 is going out with a bang!
