Racial Remarks The Root Of Hotel Backlash Which Forced “Jewish Guests” To Shower Before Swimming

Awkward.

Awkward.

A Switzerland hotel receives heat after posting a sign that urges,

To our Jewish guests: Please take a shower before you go swimming and although after swimming. If you break the rules, I’m forced to close the swimming pool for you.

If that wasn’t bad enough there was another sign on the refrigerator stating,

For our Jewish guests: You may access the refrigerator only in the following hours: 10-11am and 4.30-5.30pm. I hope you understand that our team does not like being disturbed all the time.

“Our team does not like being disturbed all the time”? The article goes on to say that, “Apparently the hotel is popular with ultra-Orthodox Jewish visitors because it has a reputation for accommodating their dietary restriction and rules about Shabbat, the Jewish holy day. Ruth said that the Jewish families had been allowed to use a staff refrigerator and that two girls had used the swimming pool without taking a shower.” Even so the manager, Ruth, did not need to exclude all Jewish families the way she did.

This backlash forced Ruth to backtrack and say that the signs were “a mistake”:

I wrote something naïve on that poster.

There was no anti-Semitic intent and the signs were removed.

We have no problem with Jewish guests at the hotel.

The timing of these signs couldn’t be more careless with the Nazi marches in the United States, it seems like everyone wants a slice of anti-Semitism pie.
