Space X wine will soon be returning from the International Space Station for scientific testing- and drinking.

Space X, a company that designs and manufactures advanced spacecraft, has taken part in some unusual missions. Elon Musk who owns the company does not hesitate to try new things, such as sending a Baby Yoda and a car into space.

The new mission that I’m sure many are hoping to be fruitful started with sending 12 cases of wine and 320 grapevines up with some astronauts to the International Space Station. The original cases were taken up to the International Space Station in November 2019 and March 2020. This should allow for plenty of time for the grapes to mature and the grapevines to grow.

The company wants to see if the radiation exposure in space or the microgravity conditions has any effect on the growth of the grapevines and the taste of the grapes, as well as the wine that was brought in cases. Space X will get a group of scientists to examine the grapes and a wine tasting team full of experts to examine the grapes and the taste.

The new experiment could see whether it is possible to have alcohol on Mars or any other planet that we plan to maybe inhabit in the future when technology advances. Vines like the grapevines sent are an essential part of food production around the world, so experiments like this will provide the agricultural world with valuable insight into whether or not we will be able to live in space.

This isn’t the only round of testing to come, as Space X plans to also do research into beer and spirit production; so don’t worry if wine isn’t your favorite drink!
