The Shoes Of The Future: Lace Your New Nike Adapt BB Shoes With No Hands

“Hey Google, lace it!”

Ever been too tired to bend down and tie your shoes yourself? Been there…

Luckily, they made an app for the Nike Adapt shoes where you can give them the control to tighten your shoes.

But ever been too tired to even open that app on your phone?

The new Nike Adapt BB shoes now work on voice control – all you have to do is speak and wish your shoe lacing into existence and you’ll be ready to bounce!

Nike’s basketball shoes come with this new Google feature: Google Assistant. It allows you to give voice controls to your shoes or interact across multiple Android apps.

From 2018, when the Google Assistant first launched alongside Nike, customers wanted more features to be added to the app to facilitate its use. Not only does the app engage with your shoes, but it is also linked with your MyFitnessPal, or your Nike Run Club app. Adding the voice recognition feature allows you to just talk to your phone to keep it updated on your diet, your exercise…the tightness of your Nike shoes?

People no longer need to tap and dial out each command now, they can simply say, “Hey Google, tighten my shoes!” or “Hey Google, log double cheeseburger in MyFitnessPal!” (perhaps not very fitness oriented…). More importantly, Assistant also can hold your calls for you if you just ask!

Google Assistant can also log onto various other apps, such as Twitter or Mint to check your news or accounts. In total, Google Assistant is compatible with 30 Android Apps, including Spotify, Walmart, Etsy, Discord, Snapchat…and soon many more as Google has made the feature to any app developers to optimize their own app.

It even allows customizable options for what phrases you say to fit your speech better. So for instance, instead of saying “Hey Google, tighten my Nikes”, you can just set the command to the phrase, “Hey Google, lace it!” or whatever catchphrase you like.

On top of that, Google is also creating a Discovery tool for the Google Assistant. This tool will help you search for something on Assistant, by showing you various search results but also suggestions on what commands to fulfill next. It can also interact with the apps you use most often so it can recommend action in your preferred apps.

With this feature becoming more popular across apps, perhaps in the near future we will be able to control most Android applications with voice commands – making owning a phone a much more customizable and personal experience than how it already is.

Technology keeps surprising users by how fast it evolves, and the difference is obvious especially after watching people buying computers in 1994!
