This past weekend, hotly anticipated series The Haunting of Bly Manor was released onto Netflix. The second in Mink Flanagan’s The Haunting anthology, expectations were high for many viewers.

The show, loosely based on Henry James’ novella, The Turn of the Screw (1898), was released on the 9th October. The new series contains nine episodes, ranging from the 45 minute mark to just over an hour.

Whilst The Haunting of Bly Manor isn’t a continuation of The Haunting of Hill House, there are plenty of little hints to the previous show to make fans happy. Make sure to keep an eye out for them!

Back in August, Entertainment Weekly described the new show’s premise this way:

“The story tells of a young governess hired by a man to look after his niece and nephew at the family country house after they fall into his care. Arriving at the Bly estate, she begins to see apparitions that proceed to haunt the premises.”

Entertainment Weekly’s summary.

Much like popular horror anthology show American Horror Story, The Haunting of Bly Manor sees the return of many of the actors featured in the previous series.

The central character, Dani Clayton, is played by Victoria Pedretti, a favourite from The Haunting of Hill House.

How Are People Reacting To The Haunting of Bly Manor?

So far, reviews for the new series have been mixed. Some can’t get enough…

…whilst others found issues with it. Considering the shortness of the novel, The Turn of the Screw, versus the almost nine hours of content the show provides, there are for sure going to be some things viewers take issue with.

If you haven’t seen the first instalment, The Haunting of Hill House, what are you waiting for? It’s got Stephen King’s seal of approval!

The Haunting of Bly Manor is available to watch right now on Netflix.
