Donald Trump took to Twitter (as usual) last week to weigh in on being removed from ‘Home Alone 2’.
Trump, who made a brief appearance in the sequel to the iconic Christmas film, was cut by the Canadian network CBC.
In the film his appearance is to give Macaulay Culkin directions to the lobby of the hotel his family have left him behind in (again). As Trump had just gained the Plaza Hotel in the real world, the bit worked as a nice joke for parents. In fact, many of the scenes of the film were shot there in the early 1990s.
Trump tweeted his reaction to the cut:
Following this, he seemed to suggest, in a similarly jovial tone, that CBC’s cut was as a result of Canadian Prime Minister Justin Trudeau’s politics.
Whilst Trump seemed to take to the cut with amusement – and a dig at Trudeau – his son, Donald Trump Jr. seemed actually angry in his reaction tweet and Instagram caption.
CBC Says Cut Was To Save Time
CBC responded to Trump’s tweet in an article, making it clear the cut was not politically motivated. The network’s spokesperson, Chuck Thompson said that Trump’s scene was amongst eight minutes that were cut to make room for adverts when the film went to TV.
‘As is often the case with feature films adapted for television, Home Alone 2 was edited for time.’
‘The scene with Donald Trump was one of several that were cut from the movie as none of them were integral to the plot. These edits were done in 2014, when we first acquired the film and before Mr. Trump was elected president.’
Naturally, the internet had to make a meme out of it, as one user, Paul Lidicul did, by re-editing Trump’s scenes, ‘so Justin Trudeau can put it BACK in’.
