If there’s one thing that almost everyone knows about Fight Club, it’s that you do not talk about Fight Club.

University student Allison Garrett took that to heart when she was assigned to write a review on the 1999 film “Fight Club,” starring Brad Pitt and Edward Norton. Instead of diving into one of the film’s many themes (such as toxic masculinity or consumerism), Garrett took a rather bold approach:

Garrett’s essay – in total – was only 19 words: “The first rule of Fight Club is, you do not talk about Fight Club. That’s it. That’s the essay.”

Garrett’s original twitter post, which now has over 44,000 retweets.

Response to the Review

Thankfully, Garrett’s professor shared her sense of humor, giving her a 100% grade. In response to her review, her professor wrote:“I struggled over this grade for a long time. I finally decided to get you a grade for a laugh and how relevant your review is for this particular movie.”

However, the lecturer warned her not to make a habit of it, saying, “Do NOT try this kind of thing with other professors; they may not have my sense of humor.”

The tweet in which Garrett posted her review and the professor’s response has gone viral, with over 44,000 retweets and 205,000 views. Many people have shared similar attempts on other papers, such as one who wrote an entire paper on which Avengers character they identified with by only typing “I am Groot” repeatedly.

The film is about an insomniac who befriends a carefree soap-maker aboard a flight. Bored with their mundane existences, they start an underground club where other men beat each other to a pulp. The club quickly grows into a massive anarchist group. The film is known for having one of the most memorable twists in film history.
