HBO’s Game of Thrones has reigned popular culture the world over for the past eight years. The controversial series has besotted audiences with its masterful storytelling, violence, and sexuality–leading to a swath of devotees and establishing itself as a barometer of TV magic.

The finale airs May 19th, signaling the end of a cultural era peppered with references and measured by the beginning of one GOT season and the end of another. Until then, audiences are teeming with anticipation over the comments–or lack thereof–from two of the showrunners regarding the fate of the Night King and his White Walkers.

Despite episode three’s seal of fate for the Night King, D.B. Weiss and David Benioff hinted during an interview with Jimmy Kimmel that there may be more to come. Kimmel was aware that he may not receive a definitive answer, but still probed the actors for hints. “Are we for sure done with the White Walkers?” After a moment of silence and knowing glances, Benioff replied, “We’re not going to answer that.”

It may be that the pair were simply instructed to build intrigue around the remaining episodes. However, considering the show’s immense popularity, this seems a little superfluous. Perhaps there really is more to come from the White Walkers. We will just have to keep watching to find out.
