In Firefly Lane season 1, Kate Mularkey (Sarah Chalke) and Johnny Ryan (Ben Lawson) ultimately admit their mutual attraction and start hooking up in the 1980s. However, in the 2000s, their relationship was not the best. In the 1980s, Kate and Johnny were getting hot and heavy, but in 2004, they appeared to be dealing with the aftermath of their divorce.

Good news for fans who were looking out for Kate and Johnny. Yes, they do get back together in the present-day storyline. After Johnny takes some therapy sessions to deal with his PTSD, he realises that he still loves Kate. In the season 2 part 1 finale, Kate finally accepts his proposal and agrees to get re-married.

Although the 1980s storyline starts strong for the couple, they break up after Kate learns that they don’t want the same things in life, i.e., marriage and children. The season concludes with Johnny trying to sort things out with Kate, but he’s too late, and she’s already moved on with a new guy- Theo.

But that was in the 1980s. So, even though that segment concludes on a “cliffhanger,” we can assume what happens with the couple in the future. In 2005, Kate and Johnny returned together again and got engaged for the second time.
