This is innovation at its finest.

A cafe in Germany, distributed hats with pool noodles on them, to ensure safety and social distancing regulations after its reopening.

On May 9, Cafe Rothe in Schwerin, Germany, celebrated the reopening of its business and asked the customers to wear a specific head accessory – hats with pool noodles on them.

After Chancellor Angela Merkel announced that the country was out of phase one of the pandemic, some social distancing regulations where lifted, and businesses around the country started to reopen and accept customers again.

The cafe’s owner, Jacqueline Rothe, with the idea of RTL – the German TV company – came up with a creative way for the patrons to maintain the recommended distance (1.5 meters) while still being able to enjoy a day out with their loved ones.

Rothe told CNN “It was a perfect gag and of course it was funny, our customers were really into it. But what it did show to us (was) how difficult it is to keep a distance of 1.5 meters (4.9 feet)”.

According to Rothe, during the lockdown, the cafe was not completely closed and just didn’t serve customers inside. Now with the reopening, the tables are positioned with more distance from each other and the cafe is using only half of its sitting capacity, while Germany is continuing the worldwide battle with COVID-19.

Rothe also told Euronews that among the many new guidelines that they had to introduce for the reopening of the cafe, they now use disposable menus, and avoid flowers or candles on the tables.

While some restrictions are lifted, Merkel has stated that Germany may have a new spike in infections if social distancing measures are ignored. Therefore people are still encouraged to keep the 1.5 meters distance and practice proper handwashing and hygiene.

While nations all over the world are conducting prevention measures to flatten the curve, some people are intentionally throwing COVID-19 parties to catch coronavirus. Read all about it here.
