‘Game of Thrones’ Actor, Wilko Johnson (Ilyn Payne), Dies Aged 76 After Battle with Cancer

Unfortunately, Wilko Johnson, died on 21 November 2022. The actor was known for the position of mute executioner Ser Ilyn Payne in both the first and second seasons of the HBO fiction string Game of Thrones. He was also an associate of the pub rock/rhythm and blues band Dr. Feelgood in the 1970s and was known for his unique guitar-playing technique, which he attained by not operating a guitar pick but playing fingerstyle guitar.

The actor was 75 years of age and died at his home in Westcliff-on-Sea, southeastern England. He was diagnosed in 2022 with pancreatic cancer and underwent experimental surgery. His death was declared on his social media spots.

The actor wedded his childhood love Irene Knight when they were teenagers, and the couple had two sons, Matthew and Simon. His wife was also suffering from cancer and died in 2004.

Billy Bragg shared his thoughts on the artist’s death and said that his music was furious and angular, but his existence – twitchy, confrontational, out of control – was something we’d never seen in UK pop. The lead musician of Franz Ferdinand, Alex Kapranos, also shared that His extraordinary, wired playing & stage existence & encouraged him and many more in the industry.

The post declaring his death reads, “…the announcement we never wanted to make, … Wilko Johnson has died… passed away at home on Monday 21 November. Thank you for respecting the family’s privacy…RIP Wilko Johnson.”
