When Robberies Go Wrong: Britain’s Most Notorious Bank Robber Reveals His Darkest Stories

Surprisingly, a lot of robberies didn’t go to plan.

Noel “Razor” Smith appeared on Anything Goes with James English to share stories from his time committing armed robberies.

The video, which has racked up over eight thousand views, premiered a week ago. In it, notorious bank robber, Noel Smith, shared stories of when robberies hadn’t always gone to plan.

Smith speaks with laughter in his voice as he recounted a time his rifle got caught in his coat. In yanking it out, he accidentally slid it across the floor to one of his captives feet.

A sense of his commanding presence is in his retelling of shouting at the man to ‘Kick that back!’. Through his tone, it’s unsurprising that the captive actually did slide it back to the man threatening him.

Yet Smith is able to tell these stories in such an entertaining way, you can’t help but laugh along.

Like the time he handed a plastic bag to a man in a queue and he started emptying his pockets into it.

Smith retells his response to seeing this man.

“No, not you – for fuck’s sake – give it to the cashier!”

“When I get the money away and I pour the bag out, there’s a comb, a bus ticket, like three pence in change and all sorts of weird shit.”

English ends the interview by asking the biggest robbery Smith ever committed – and he says it was a midland bank he stole £48,000 from.

Where is he now?

Smith committed around 200 robberies but his career came to an end when he was sentenced to 26 years in prison. Smith was released in 2010 after serving 11 years.

After getting an A level in Law, and an honours diploma from the London University of Journalism whilst in prison, Smith went on to become a writer after his release.

In the video, he tells many other stories from his previous career.
