Great news from a galaxy far far away: Star Wars fans have a ton of new shows to look forward to.

Earlier this month, Disney gave their Star Wars fans an early Christmas present by announcing ten new TV shows on Investors Day 2020. The shows will include characters fans are familiar with, such as the return of Obi-Wan Kenobi and Lando Calrissian, as well as characters the community has yet to meet.

Following in The Mandolorian‘s footsteps, each series will be realized directly onto Disney+ and will premiere one episode per week. Some shows will be released in 2021, while others won’t be released until 2022 or 2023. Disney+ is currently available in 18 countries worldwide, but Disney has hopes to make it available to everyone as production picks up for these upcoming shows.

Here’s what we know so far:

Obi Wan Kenobi

Lucasfilm

Ewan McGregor and Hayden Christensen are both retiring to reprise their roles as Obi-Wan Kenobi and Anakin Skywalker/ Darth Vader. This series takes place 1o years after Revenge of the Sith. McGregor has made clear his excitement about getting to work and face off with Christensen once again.

The series is set to begin filming in early 2021.

Ahsoka

Lucasfilm

While she made her first live-action appearance in The Mandolorian this past season, many Star Wars fans have loved Ahsoka Tano since her first appearance in the animated Star Wars: The Clone Wars television show. The man responsible for her success as a fan-favorite, Dave Filoni, will be the showrunner for her live-action series. Filoni will team up once again with Jon Favreau on this new project.

This show will take place during the same timeline as The Mandolorian, following her appearance in the show and continuing her search for Grand Admiral Thrawn. Rosario Dawson will continue her portrayal of Ahsoka Tano in this upcoming series.

Rangers of the New Republic

Lucasfilm

This series, developed by Filoni and Favreau, will also take place during the same timeline as The Mandalorian. The company hinted that, since all three series take place during the same timeline and are run by the same team, crossover episodes can be expected in the future.

Andor

Star Wars/ YouTube

Star Wars fans will remember Cassian Andor from the epic film Rogue One. This series will take place before the events of Rogue One and outline Cassian and his droid companion K-2SO’s journey as part of the rebellion before Luke Skywalker even came into play.

Andor began filming in 2020 and will be in 2022 as a 12-episode series.

The Bad Batch

Star Wars/ YouTube

Fans of Star Wars: The Clone Wars are incredibly excited for the upcoming animated series The Bad Batch. This team of “defective” clone troopers formed their own crew of renegades and made their first appearance in the final season of Star Wars: The Clone Wars. This series will take place after the events of Revenge of the Sith.

Star Wars Visions

Lucasfilm

Star Wars: Visions is another animated series in the works. This series will feature 10 animated short films, each taking place at different moments throughout the Star Wars timeline. Each film will have a different animation style due to each episode having a different lead artist. Plus, according to the Star Wars Twitter page, the films will portray “the Star Wars galaxy through the lens of the world’s best Japanese anime creators”.

Lando

Lucasfilm

Very little has been released about the upcoming Land series. Fans are curious to see when this series will take place along the timeline, as well as whether or not the “smooth-talking smuggler” will be portrayed by Billy Dee Williams or Donald Glover.

However, we do know that Justin Simien, director of Dear White People and Bad Hair will be at the helm of this upcoming series.

The Acolyte

Lucasfilm

Set during the age of the High Republic, the series The Acolyte will feature an era of the Star Wars timeline yet to be explored through film or television. The series takes place hundreds of years before the events of The Phantom Menace and is said to be a mystery-thriller towards the end of the High Republic’s reign.

Leslye Headland, director of Netflix’s hit series Russian Doll, will lead this project.

A Droid Story

Lucasfilm

Having spent the past several decades as lovable side characters, R2-D2 and C-3PO are finally getting their own animated series. the show will follow these two memorable droids throughout the galaxy as they guide a new hero through a perilous journey.

The Book of Boba Fett

Lucasfilm

Spoilers for anyone not yet caught up in the second season of The Mandolorian, but Boba Fett is getting his own live action series. In the post-credits scene of Mandolorian‘s Season 2 Finale, Boba fest returns to Jabba’s Palace on Tatooine and takes over as ruler of all trade on the planet. This series will most likely also be set during the Mandolorian timeline and Temuera Morrison will continue his role as Boba Fett.

Overall, Star Wars fans have a diverse set of series to look forward to. The community will be entertained for the next several years, and it seems that these series could spark some new fan-favorite character.
